Hot-date-Thursday

Are you free on Thursday 3rd April? asked Lorraine Thomas
Could be... I replied.
Then join me at the Modern Woman Show.

Walking into London’s Grand Connaught Rooms, I was hit by a palpable energy - the kind that makes you straighten your crown and think: This is where the future of women’s leadership is being shared, moulded, enriched and celebrated .

It was crystal clear from the outset this wasn't just another conference. It was a blueprint for how #modernwomen connect, learn, inspire and rise together. And join hands on the Road to Success City.

My Take on Being a Modern Woman

A modern woman dares to be herself. Without reservation.

The event kicked off with a welcome breakfast. This set the stage for an action packed day filled with speaker sessions and interactive workshops with an agenda that hit a number of sweet spots that resonated with me:

  • Financial audacity - being smart, savvy and unapologetically switched on.
  • Tribe mentality - because success isn’t a solo sport.
  • Ageless ambition - embracing every decade with an open mind, open arms and the quiet certainty that age is a verb, not a number.
  • Winning mindset - Dame Kelly Holmes shared her story of what it takes to be Double Olympic Champion and how the modern woman can follow in her footsteps.

The day unfolded like a masterclass in rewriting the rules.

Property & Construction Workshop in the Innovation Room

1. Breaking Barriers

A lively discussion on innovation in Property & Construction, was moderated by the unstoppable Lorraine Thomas , with an impressive panel of industry experts: Dr David Hancock MBA Sara Cartin Charlotte Whincup

Key takeaways

  • How can the sector attract more women?
  • Why post-pandemic leadership demands flexibility + grit
  • The real ROI of diversity in male-dominated industries
  • The role of AI

2. Secret Sauce of Success

Beyond the inspiring sessions, what truly made the day memorable was the magic of connection in the spaces between the sessions.

That’s why events like The Modern Woman Show are a collision point for new ideas that can spark something extraordinary, a chance to meet fresh faces and reconnect with familiar ones.

  • I geeked out on LinkedIn with Sarah Clay in her Workshop, proof that your profile is your modern-day business card.
  • Got schooled on financial freedom by Ayesha Ofori who highlighted a host of reasons why wealth-building should be on the agenda for every #modernwoman.
  • Reconnected with Claire Bannister , turning a virtual spark only two weeks previous into real-life synergy.

Each of these moments reminded me of the richness that comes from showing up.

3. An After-Dark Rebellion

A totally different vibe began when the lights dimmed and the post-agenda kicked in with an evening of entertainment. Canapés made their rounds and found their way into every conversation. Bubbles flowed and the Innovation Room buzzed with live music, creating the perfect setting to celebrate being a #modernwoman in the company of #modernwomen.
