Issue #17: The Importance of Internships!
Welcome to the 17th issue of the UCD Careers Network Newsletter!
With exams and the holiday season coming up, this will be our second-last issue of the year. We'll be returning the week before the Spring term starts (18 January) with a Special Edition about our Internship Fair which will take place in O'Reilly Hall on the 24th of January from 1-4pm. Make sure not to miss it! Sign up here to received updates and reminders!
In the spirit of our upcoming Internship Fair, we will already be including some Internship opportunities in this issue. Internships give you the opportunity to gain work experience and develop employability skills relevant to your programme. Internships are also a great way to try something out before making a longer-term commitment to a specific career area; as well as an opportunity to develop your network, which can prove invaluable when job-hunting.
Our Pick of the Week is...
KPMG Summer Internship Programme and Events
With Summer Internship applications opening just around the corner, KPMG has some upcoming events for exclusive access into all things Summer Internships!
- Summer Intern & Work Placement Insight Day in the Dublin offices (Event date: 2 December - Registration deadline: 28 November)
- Guide to KPMG Intern Hiring Webinar (Event date: 5 December - Registration deadline: 28 November)
- Insider View to the KPMG Internship Webinar (Event date: 23 January - Registration deadline: 16 January)
These events are to promote KPMG's Summer Internship Programme 2023 (Application deadline: 30 January).
To find the best internship for you, here are UCD Careers Network's top tips for finding a great internship:
- Start early – competition can be fierce for Summer internships so you should start looking early.
- Do your research – use all of the resources available to you to identify major employers in your area of interest. You have nothing to lose by making an application, so don’t be afraid to think big.
- Be persistent – you may need to submit many applications before you are successful.
- Use your network – do you have any contacts who might be able to help you in your search? Can you find out if there are any current or former students who work or have worked in some of your target companies?
