Leaders Read#101

👋 Hello everyone,

Charles Kettering said, “If you have always done it that way, it is probably wrong.”

Here are a few resources you might have missed:

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "Standout" by Dorie Clark.

Dorie Clark breaks down how thought leadership is about zeroing in on what matters. How you can learn, grow, and progress—so you can become known not just for what you do, but for how you think.

One of my favorite takeaways from the book is this:

"When facing a challenge, ask yourself: How can you fill the gap between what's available now and what people actually need? Is there anyone, anywhere, who has solved a similar problem? When you look at what others have done, you can often find unlikely sources of inspiration. You don't have to reinvent the wheel; you can simply adapt the most relevant parts to new circumstances."

✅ Actionable advice:

It's the leadership skill to look beyond what is right in front of you. It's Helen Barnett Diserens, in 1952, looking at a ball-point pen and revolutionizing how we apply deodorant with the roll-on deodorant. It's Johns Hopkins Hospital, in 2016, studying air traffic control towers and built a nurse command center, saving lives and generating an additional $16 million in revenue. When you're stuck, don't just look harder—ask: how would a carpenter, a lawyer, or a scientist approach this? The answers you need might already exist—just not in your industry.

Have a great week!
