Let's Prepare for "The Day After"
Israel is at a very critical point right now - we have a huge opportunity to use this whole situation to rise up to a better place together. But only if we really want to.
Here's something you don't see every day: a heartwarming moment in our Knesset . Currently a Knesset Member for Shas, Yinon Azulai is talking about how tomorrow will look - how we want our kids to be able to go outside and play with anyone, without all kinds of perceptions about which side they're on.
He's talking about all the widows and orphans - how they brought about our unity. But if once the war is over we go back to bickering - then what did we lose them for?
In this clip he's talking about all the volunteers from so many organizations who had to deal with the murders and devastation down South such as Zaka International Rescue & Recovery and Magen David Adom in Israel - they all did it on a voluntary basis. The had the toughest job in all this.

"But if once the war is over we go back to bickering - then what did we lose them for? What have we done for them? Today we are united in this committee about financial compensation for the reservists. And I don't care about any reform or anything - the only thing I care about is that when we walk down the street we can greet one another. And that regardless what neighborhood we're from, our kids can smile at one another and play together."
"We are the example for all those people. The best example is what's happening here - even though we have the financial people from different factions. Everyone came with the concerns of the people they represent and not everyone came out satisfied. But we conducted ourselves in a respectful manner. We saw everyone making an effort. The tax authority and Ministry of Finance who we don't always like to give credit to - but they're doing serious work. They've sat on this legislation many nights and deserve our thanks. After all the arguments here, we saw how they were all for bringing a good result."
My Commentary
There is this wave of awareness washing over Israel about the need to shift from being mainly concerned with ourselves to gradually taking care of others.
There is this wave of awareness washing over Israel about the need to shift from being mainly concerned with ourselves to gradually taking care of others.
In a relatively short period it's like some blanket has fallen on our society - we've come to an understanding, a sort of realization that it's not possible to go on the way we were before October 7.
There is no way to measure this boost of our collective emotional intelligence. We can't measure where we are and or see this change. All we can see are the external changes in the reality around us.
There's a feeling that we're all holding our breath for something - like we're on stand by. It's a very strong feeling felt by all because all this is far from being resolved ... as long as we are still losing people and have hostages there for over 100 days now.
We're hoping and praying, and expecting some type of revelation now that the powers that be have our full attention.
But it's not going to happen overnight just because we suddenly remembered there's some entity other than ourselves in control of things.
So all we can do is keep preparing ourselves and our surrounding environment for the day after, because everything we do at this sensitive time has so much power to inspire others in a positive way.
We can try to change the situation all we want - but that's not how change actually happens.
Once we will elevate the power of our unity above all else, it will be felt all over the world.
We can change or only change within ourselves. If the relationship between us changes then it will change everything. And we'll discover that the whole world is inclined to this and on some level anticipating this social innovation to come from here.
I'm full of hope and gratitude for this huge opportunity ahead - it's starting to feel like one big test for our people and we're rising to the occasion on so many levels.
We need to keep in mind that we are the main force that can turn the world around for the better, and that even our haters understand this.
Once we will elevate the power of our unity above all else, it will be felt all over the world.
This is how we will hold the world together.
