The Most Valuable Asset in Business (And Why You’re Probably Ignoring It)
“What’s the most valuable thing in a business?”
Patrick Bet-David asked this in the middle of a 3-hour mastermind in New York City—surrounded by 21 entrepreneurs, with revenues ranging from $4 million to $450million top-line revenue.
Some said brand. Others said people. A few said revenue or systems. But Patrick’s answer stopped the room:
“Momentum.”
Why Momentum Is Everything
If you’ve ever built momentum in your business, you know what a gift it is.
The leads are flowing. The team is dialed in. You’re making clear, confident decisions. You feel undeniable progress.
But here’s the trap:
90% of entrepreneurs take momentum for granted.
They assume it will continue on its own.
They get comfortable. They pull back just a bit. They start focusing on the wrong things.
And before they know it, momentum is gone.
Momentum = Mass x Velocity
How much energy you’re applying × How fast you’re moving
In business, that means:
How much firepower you're throwing behind key initiatives
How fast you're executing, hiring, selling, and making decisions
When you lose velocity or lose mass (team, focus, energy) momentum fades.
And nothing is harder than rebuilding it.
Where Are You Losing Momentum?
In New York, Patrick challenged each of us with this:
Where are you applying force in areas with low ROI?
Where are you slowing down without realizing it?
Where are you distracted by tasks that don’t move the needle?
Most entrepreneurs get delusional.
They start believing the business can grow without them.
But until you’ve built the team, systems, and machine to run without you, you must double down on the areas with the most upside.
Look at your calendar. Look at your conversations. Look at your to-do list.
What’s the ROI of your time?
Same with your team. Start thinking of people as investments:
Who has the highest upside?
Who’s gaining velocity?
Who just needs a push to break through?
Everyone Has the Same Three Things
Every person you manage. Every customer you serve. Every leader you build.
They all carry:
Fears
Insecurities
Desires
The question is: Do you know how to lead them through those emotions… fast enough to build momentum?
Stay focused. Stay urgent. Protect your momentum.
