Mozambique companies urged to prioritize well-being programs

Mozambique's corporate landscape is being called upon to embrace a culture of fostering well-being programs to unlock the full potential of their workforce, according to findings from the "Tempus Benefits and Human Capital Survey" released last Tuesday, 28 November 2023.

Sponsored by Hollard Seguros, notably, the study reveals that few employers in Mozambique offer flexible work arrangements aimed at enhancing employee #wellness.

Bruna Gomes Quintas of Hollard Seguros emphasizes the significance of the survey: "This landmark survey provides vital insights into employee well-being across #Mozambique, with a specific focus on work-life balance—an area Hollard Health prioritizes. Employee wellness should extend beyond mere productivity gains, and we empower employers with the tools and insights needed to foster a more balanced approach."

Hollard Seguros showcases its commitment through benefits, tools, and experiences tailored for employee well-being. Notably, their paid-in-full Preventative Care benefits enable all members to undergo essential health screenings without financial concerns.

"Our interactive HealthMov app offers employees a comprehensive analysis of their health, including blood pressure, heart rate, breath rate, stress levels, movement, sleep patterns, and BMI. This information is then shared anonymously with employers, providing valuable insights into areas of wellness that require attention," Quintas elaborated.

For instance, she pointed out that, the insurance company, hosted in October its flagship Wellness Journey in Maputo, where they provided practical, and very impactful, ways for employees to enhance their health, at their own pace, on their own terms.

The #Wellness #Journey, hosted in October, focused on Six Pillars of Health, opening attendees up to the idea that wellness is not just about being fit and toned. Bruna Quintas stressed that “It is about holistically taking care of their bodies, minds, and souls through food and nutrition, preventative and proactive health screenings that harness the power of technology, sleep and mindfulness and finding the right form of exercise to suit their unique needs”.

“By offering each member the tools they need to empower their own unique health journey, and giving employers the insights, they need to facilitate this, we are providing true value to the lives of employees and in so doing, their families, communities and the country” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Imran Esmael, also from Hollard Seguros underscores the importance of demystifying organizational culture in the context of enabling wellbeing. He emphasizes the role of habits, beliefs, and behaviors shaping organizational culture and how excessive work demands can lead to diminishing returns over time.

Esmael urges Leaders to focus on creating a culture that supports employees rather than overloading top performers. He notes the challenge of balancing personal and professional life and advocates for flexible work arrangements.

"The research underscores the need for flexible work in Mozambique. We may not be talking about complete remote work, but flexibility is crucial."

Esmael suggests HR professionals collaborate with managers to implement cultural changes, especially when policies are rigid. He calls for a shift in the prevailing culture that prioritizes constant delivery over well-being, advocating for the creation of a healthy work environment and support systems.

In conclusion, Esmael reflects on the impact of burnout on individuals and families and emphasizes the role of HR professionals in driving positive change. He challenges the audience to consider how they contribute to building a healthy work environment and emphasizes the need for ongoing reflection and adaptation.

The survey results and insights presented by Tempus Unity underline a collective responsibility to prioritize employee well-being in Mozambique's corporate landscape, with a focus on fostering a culture that supports both professional and personal growth.
