NAIDOC Week 2019
Next week is an important week for us as a nation.
It’s also an important week for all Australian businesses.
Sunday marks the start of NAIDOC week for 2019 and this year, arguably more than any other, is a time for us as a business community to unite around recognition and reconciliation with and for our Indigenous people.
With the Uluru Statement from the Heart serving as a lighthouse, compass and rallying cry all in one, Australian businesses can stand behind this important document.
At Pragmatic Thinking, we’re making the declaration to stand behind it. 443 words that can change the future of our Indigenous people, and in turn, all Australians.
If you haven’t yet read the statement, I deeply encourage you to do so. It’s a beautifully written, succinct statement that creates among many things, the purpose around a treaty to honour and recognise our First Nations people, something that already exists in many other countries around the world, but not yet in Australia.
From a pure business context, NAIDOC week not only serves as an opportunity to pay respect to the world’s longest unbroken culture but to learn from experts in the most discussed, least understood topic in business; culture.
So get out of your board rooms.
Leave the presentation slides behind.
Dig into the deep customs of our Indigenous people; learn from their stories and artefacts; look for the connection to country and the signs and symbols.
At Pragmatic Thinking, we’ll certainly be celebrating NAIDOC week.
You’ll see and hear plenty from us.
VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH.
