Smile Anyway!
Although we are all wearing masks to prevent and protect ourselves and others, we need to remind ourselves to SMILE ANYWAY!
That’s right! Keep smiling for many reasons:
Your smile has the ability to help make you and those around you healthier! Many studies have proven that when we look at a smiling face, our brains release endorphins which makes us feel happier and calmer. Not only that, but your smile has the POWER to unite, restore, and resolve. Smiles can predict fulfillment in future plans and make you seem courteous, likable, and competent; opening up opportunities for common ground. Your smile also has the power to give others HOPE. When you smile at someone, you are showing that they matter which gives them a boost of encouragement and happiness.
Sometimes smiling is the farthest thing from our minds and the last thing we want to do. After all, we live in a complicated world where there are huge differences along with pain, suffering and many injustices. However, I urge you to SMILE ANYWAYS!
If it feels awkward or you’ve forgotten how, let’s refresh:
A SMILE is the thing you do with your face when you are happy -– or want others to think you are. Lol.
Your expression softens and your mouth turns up at the corners.😊
A smile is a universal message and is associated with enjoyment and pleasure.
In general, a smile is a sign of kindness and goodwill.
Here’s the thing—a smile costs NOTHING to give and is worth more than you may ever know.
A simple smile is often all it takes to change the world around you.
Tell yourself that you need to smile for your own good and that people desperately need you to smile for theirs.
TIPS TO SMILE BY:
1. Make eye contact more often.
2. Smile with your eyes. Use your eyes to reflect your smile and connect with others.
3. Use body language and verbal cues (when you normally wouldn’t) as ways of portraying kindness and spreading optimism.
Although it feels like there is little that we can control, we can ALWAYS control the things that matter most— our thoughts, words, and actions.
So friends, mask or no mask, smile anyways because you can.
