India’s Renewable Energy Capacity Expands 5-Fold Since 2014, Driven by Solar Boom in Rajasthan, Gujarat & Tamil Nadu

India’s renewable energy capacity has surged fivefold since 2014, thanks to supportive policies and widespread adoption of clean technologies like solar panels. According to MNRE’s new weekly data, solar capacity soared from 2,821 MW in 2014 to 1,10,834 MW by May 2025, while wind and bio-energy also posted strong growth. The ministry credits central schemes, rooftop installations, and expanded wind corridors for this remarkable progress, calling it “a story of ambition backed by action.” These updates showcase immense opportunities for every solar panel manufacturer working to power India’s green transition.

DMRC Invites Bids for 5 MW Rooftop Solar Project on Phase-IV Metro Network

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has floated a tender for a 5 MW rooftop solar project under the RESCO model, covering its Phase-IV corridors and facilities. The ₹19.54 crore project includes design, installation, and 25 years of O&M. Bidders must submit an EMD of ₹19.54 lakh, with commissioning required within 18 months. Tender documents are on sale until July 31, 2025, with the bid opening set for August 1, 2025. This initiative supports DMRC’s push toward cleaner energy across its expanding network.

India Energy Stack: Paving the Way for a Unified Digital Power Sector

To support India’s $30 trillion economic vision and Net Zero goals, the power sector is going digital. The India Energy Stack (IES) aims to break data silos by introducing a secure, interoperable platform. Through its Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP), it will allow power generators, distributors, tech firms, and consumers to seamlessly share data, drive innovation, enable dynamic pricing, and strengthen grid management — setting the stage for a more resilient and transparent energy market.

India’s Renewable Power Hits 26,600 MU in May 2025, Driven by Solar & Wind

In May 2025, India generated 26,604.7 million units (MU) of renewable electricity (excluding large hydro), marking a 28.4% jump over May 2024 and an 11.6% rise from April 2025.

  • Solar power led the charge, contributing 53.77% (14,305 MU). Although early monsoon rains slightly reduced output from April, solar generation still grew 32.75% year-on-year, supported by policy incentives, new installations, and improved PV tech.
  • Wind energy followed, making up 40.10% (10,667 MU), aided by stronger seasonal winds and pushing India’s installed wind capacity to 51,292 MW.
  • Other renewables, including biomass, bagasse, and small hydro, formed the remaining 6.13%, adding diversity to the energy mix.

These gains highlight India’s steady progress toward its 2030 target of 500 GW renewable capacity, though experts stress the need to ramp up storage, grid upgrades, and financing to sustain momentum.

NHPC Invites Bids for Solar Rooftop Projects in Manipur Under RESCO Model

NHPC Limited, through its subsidiary NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NHPC REL), has issued a Request for Selection (RfS) to invite online bids for installing grid-connected solar rooftop systems on government buildings in Manipur. The project will be executed under the RESCO mode using tariff-based competitive bidding and e-reverse auction.

Key dates:

  • Tender published: June 30, 2025
  • Online bid submission: July 3 to August 1, 2025
  • Offline document submission deadline: August 5, 2025
  • Technical bid opening: August 6, 2025

Chhattisgarh Moves to Update Deviation Settlement Rules in Line with National Framework

The Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) has released draft Intra-State Deviation Settlement Mechanism Regulations, 2025 to align the state’s power deviation framework with the latest national standards. This move updates Chhattisgarh’s 2016 regulations, originally modeled on CERC’s 2014 norms, to reflect the revised CERC DSM Regulations of 2024 and recent amendments, which have reshaped how deviations by power buyers and sellers are commercially treated.
