India Sets 1.8 TW Renewable Energy Target by 2047
India has set an ambitious target of 1,800 GW (1.8 TW) of renewable energy capacity by 2047 to meet rising power demand, according to MNRE Additional Secretary Sudeep Jain at the Mercom India Renewables Summit 2025.The country already achieved its 2030 goal of 50% non-fossil fuel capacity five years early and currently generates 243 GW from non-fossil sources. Solar Modules manufacturing has reached 91 GW (modules) and 25 GW (cells), with more in the pipeline. Key challenges include grid integration, land, and transmission, while the government pushes for green skilling and R&D to support industry growth and job creation.
NHPC Issues Tender to Develop 1.2 GW Solar Project in Jalaun, UP
UPNEDA issued a tender to select developers for setting up solar power plants (4×300 MW) for the Jalaun Solar Power Park 1.2 GW in Jalaun district. NHPC has sought online bids for the projects until September 5, 2025.
MNRE Releases First ALCM with 13 GW of Solar Cell Manufacturing Capacity
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued its first Approved List of Cell Manufacturers (ALCM), featuring nine manufacturing units from six solar cell producers with a combined domestic capacity of around 13 GW, which is significantly lower than the previously stated figure of 25 GW. The list highlights advanced technologies like bifacial n-type TOPCon cells with reported efficiencies exceeding 25%. The ALCM will remain valid from July 31, 2025, to July 30, 2029. Several well-known manufacturers are currently not included, as their applications are still under review. A more comprehensive list is expected in future updates, with over 35 additional manufacturers planning to begin solar cell production by 2026–27, potentially leading to a sharp rise in enlistments.
Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam Issues 100 MW Solar Tender
Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam (MPJM) has invited bids for 100 MW solar and 60 MW wind projects, with a submission deadline of August 22, 2025. Power will be consumed under a PSOA, requiring 90% of guaranteed annual output for five years. The wind tender allows expansion up to 62 MW, and both projects must be operational within 24 months. This move aligns with the state’s goal of achieving 50% renewable energy by FY 2030.
MNRE Set to Expand Solar Procurement Options with Upcoming ALMM Update
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is set to release the second Approved List of Solar Modules and Manufacturers within 10 days. This update will help developers, EPCs, and stakeholders source compliant components, ensuring quality, transparency, and faster solar growth under the ALMM policy.
