Jobs Report March 2025

The labor market remained strong in March, with job growth surpassing recent trends despite economic fluctuations. Healthcare, social assistance, retail trade, and transportation saw notable gains, while federal employment declined.

Key Employment Highlights:

  • Nonfarm payrolls added 228,000 jobs in March, exceeding the prior 12-month average of 158,000. Gains were led by healthcare, social assistance, retail trade, and transportation.
  • Healthcare led job growth with 54,000 new positions, particularly in ambulatory services (+20,000), hospitals (+17,000), and nursing care (+17,000).
  • Social assistance added 24,000 jobs, with individual and family services accounting for 22,000 of the increase.
  • Retail trade gained 24,000 jobs, largely due to the return of 21,000 food and beverage store workers following a strike. General merchandise retailers lost 5,000 jobs.
  • Transportation and warehousing expanded by 23,000 jobs, driven by couriers and messengers (+16,000) and truck transportation (+10,000). These gains were partially offset by a loss of 9,000 jobs in warehousing and storage.
  • Federal government employment declined by 4,000, continuing a downward trend.
  • Average hourly earnings rose by 0.3% to $36.00, marking a 3.8% annual growth rate.
  • Unemployment remained stable at 4.2%, within the narrow range observed since mid-2024.

The Job of Being Uncomfortable: Turning Struggles into Strengths

You probably try to avoid discomfort—it feels uncertain and vulnerable. But if you think back, it’s often the uncomfortable moments that helped you grow the most. When you stuck with a new skill, practiced through the frustration, and stayed determined, those awkward tasks eventually became easy.

What you might now consider “common sense” or “easy” probably didn’t start that way. You likely spent time relearning, practicing, and repeating until things finally clicked. Growth takes time, effort, and patience.

It’s a lot like going to the gym for the first time as an adult—intimidating and confusing. Everyone else seems to know what they’re doing, and you’re just trying not to mess up. But no one starts as an expert. Everyone begins somewhere.

The key is to make a plan, keep showing up, and surround yourself with people who know more and want to help you grow. You’ll fumble, and that’s okay. The right people will encourage you, not judge you. And eventually, the things that once felt impossible will start to feel natural.

One of the most important steps is being honest about what you don’t know. If you’re not, you risk reinforcing bad habits. Self-awareness and intentional practice lead to real progress.

This mindset is what makes communities like Soni so powerful. It’s not just about personal growth—it’s about learning, supporting, and growing together. These are your people. We are your people.

So the next time you feel uncomfortable, remind yourself: discomfort is often a sign that growth is happening. Lean into it. Keep showing up. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. One day, that thing that feels hard today? It’ll be easy—and you’ll be ready for what’s next.
