Stop Looking For Permission - You Have It!

Stop Looking For Permission - You Have It!

I recall a particular morning when I had coffee in hand, staring at my overflowing Outlook calendar, and feeling like I was growing before it even began. Then it hit me:

No one is coming to tap me on the shoulder and say,

  • “Hey, you can change that.”
  • "Go take the vacation."
  • "Block the time, you need it."

Not my boss. Not my mentor. Not my coach. Not Instagram (although some posts were seriously poking the bear). I had to do it.

I’d been quietly waiting for the nod. The signal. The “You’ve earned it.” But the truth? I already had the permission slip. I just hadn’t signed it.

The Habit We Don’t Name: Outsourcing Permission

We do it quietly. We wait for the boss to say, “Take the time.” For the family to say, “We’ve got it, you rest.” For the universe to send a sign—preferably a neon one we can see from every angle.

Meanwhile, our gut has been whispering the truth for months.

I finally realized: No outside voice is going to announce my next season. That’s my job. My responsibility. My freedom.

The Green Light Was Mine All Along

Once I stopped auditioning for approval, the questions shifted:

  • “What do I actually need in this season?”
  • “What am I doing out of habit, not alignment?”
  • “Where am I making choices to be seen rather than to be well?”

That’s where this began—not in a dramatic life overhaul, but in a quiet decision to trust myself more than the noise.

Try This

Write down the thing you keep waiting to “get permission” to do (or undo). Then answer:

  1. Whose approval am I hoping for?
  2. What would change if I stopped waiting?
  3. What’s the tiniest first step that proves I mean it?

Not a manifesto. A step. One email. One boundary. One redirected yes.
