TQI QuickBits: Going Public. More Quantum Adventures of NVentures. And More News in Quantum

So, I'm a little bored with the "it's been a big week in quantum" intros to this thing, especially when it seems that every week is a big week in quantum.

From now on, "a big week" is the baseline.

Having said that, it was a big week in quantum, and I wanted to spotlight a couple of pieces of news to keep an eye on, because these stories will likely shape the future of the industry.

First is a new round of pending public quantum companies. Horizon Quantum Computing and Infleqtion , two quantum tech stalwarts, both announced plans to enter the public market through Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) mergers. (Although I'm partial to "blank check companies" because it sounds so generous.)

Horizon Quantum announced a SPAC merger with dMY Squared Technology Group and is expected to list on Nasdaq under the ticker “HQ.” Infleqtion announced a SPAC merger with Churchill Capital Corp X, with the intended ticker “INFQ.”

There are some side benefits to these listings. Trading on the stock exchange raises public awareness of quantum tech (which can backfire, to be sure), and many companies have used listings as a way to bolster their finances and extend their runways (which can also backfire, but we remain optimistic).

Second thing I'll call out is the continued financial interest in quantum from NVIDIA . Both QuEra Computing Inc. and PsiQuantum —in PsiQuantum’s case, through its billion-dollar raise—announced that NVIDIA’s venture arm, NVentures, took a stake in their businesses.

Taken together, these moves seem to offer even more evidence that the quantum industry is maturing quickly.

Have a BIG weekend!

Quotable Quantum

QuEra Computing announced an investment from NVentures, which is NVIDIA’s venture capital arm, that expands its $230 million Series B round first announced in February.

“We already work with NVIDIA, pairing our scalable neutral‑atom architecture with its accelerated‑computing stack to speed the arrival of useful, fault‑tolerant quantum machines. But the decision to invest in us deepens our collaboration and underscores our shared belief that hybrid quantum-classical systems will unlock meaningful value for customers sooner than many expect.” -- Andy Ory, CEO, QuEra Computing

What You Need to Know

  • PsiQuantum has raised $1 billion in Series E funding, bringing its valuation to $7 billion, with backing from major investors including BlackRock, Temasek, and Baillie Gifford.
  • The company will use the funding to build utility-scale quantum computing sites in Brisbane and Chicago, deploy prototype systems, and advance its photonic chip and fault-tolerant architecture.
  • New investors include Macquarie Capital, Ribbit Capital, NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture arm), Adage Capital, Qatar Investment Authority, and others, alongside participation from existing investors such as Blackbird and T. Rowe Price.
  • PsiQuantum’s approach relies on photonic qubits and semiconductor manufacturing, aiming for a million-physical-qubit, error-corrected system to achieve commercially useful quantum computing.
  • The company has developed a high-volume photonic chipset with Barium Titanate (BTO) optical switches, manufactured with GlobalFoundries, which could also be applied to next-generation AI supercomputers.
  • PsiQuantum has also designed data center–style cooling systems and demonstrated quantum networking via telecom fiber, removing reliance on large cryostats and positioning its architecture for scale.

PsiQuantum today announced it has raised $1 billion in funding for its Series E round to build the world’s first commercially useful, fault-tolerant quantum computers. This funding will equip the company to break ground on utility-scale quantum computing sites in Brisbane and Chicago, deploy large-scale prototype systems to validate systems architecture and integration, and further advance the performance of its quantum photonic chips and fault-tolerant architecture.
