Unlearning Brought in The New Me
We talk so much about learning—but rarely do we speak of unlearning. Yet, unlearning was the most powerful shift that shaped who I am today.
Life didn’t hand me an easy script; life has constantly tested my limits. I’ve had to juggle roles—a mother, a wife, a professional, author and more. Along the way, I carried burdens I didn’t even realize were not mine to carry: outdated beliefs, guilt for chooses I made, self-imposed limitations, the fear of not being enough and emotional loads I never spoke of.
There were days when challenges came all at once—financial strains, broken expectations, overwhelming responsibilities—but I made one promise to myself: never give up. If I couldn’t run, I would walk. If walking felt impossible, I would crawl. But I kept moving.
But through every storm, I held onto two constants: my pen and my purpose. Reading gave me escape. Writing gave me healing. And storytelling became my strength. The turning point came when I began to unlearn.
Over the years, I’ve learned that unlearning is just as powerful as acquiring new skills. I had to unlearn deeply rooted beliefs:
📖 That I must shrink my dreams to fit societal expectations.
📖 That motherhood and ambition can’t coexist.
📖 That my worth was tied to being everything for everyone.
I unlearned that sacrifice meant silence. I unlearned that ambition makes a woman less nurturing. I unlearned that asking for help is weakness. I unlearned that my dreams had an expiry date.
Unlearning wasn’t easy. It came through tears, uncomfortable decisions, lost relationships, and deep reflection. But each time I let go of a belief that no longer served me, I made space for something better.
Each struggle brought a lesson. Sometimes I moved forward with tiny steps. Other times, after a extremely painful challenge, I took a giant leap. And every leap shaped a new version of me—stronger, braver, and more aligned with my truth.
I am not the same person I was a year ago. And that’s something I’m deeply proud of.
Becoming an author wasn’t just about putting words on a page. It was about reclaiming my voice. My stories aren’t just mine- its for every woman juggling multiple identities, battling invisible wars, or simply trying to find herself again.
Let unlearning be your freedom. Let it strip away what the world told you to be and uncover the powerful person you already are.
Today, I don’t strive to be perfect—I strive to be real. And the new me is a result of everything I had the courage to release.
To anyone feeling trapped between roles or expectations, I offer this:
Unlearning is your gateway to becoming. Let go, to grow.
