What Four Years at Slalom Taught Me: Growth Beyond the Resume

When I look back at the last four years at Slalom, the theme that stands out most is growth, both in my professional skill set and in who I am as a person.

Before joining Slalom, my career goal was clear: climb the ranks to become an executive at a software company. Consulting was a pivot and one I felt sure was taking me away from that ambition. But as I’ve discovered, consulting has been an incredible accelerator for growth. The variety of clients and projects I’ve worked on in a relatively short period would have taken years to experience if I had stayed on a traditional path, even moving between roles or companies.

In just four years, I’ve worn many hats including business analyst, solution owner, IT project manager, engagement lead, and others. I’ve helped build IT team roadmaps, led integration projects to eliminate manual work, and coached teams at companies that had never had a dedicated IT project manager before. I’ve learned about networking, facility management, security systems, integration platforms, and so much more. Every new challenge has stretched me, and every unfamiliar industry has sparked new curiosity and learning.

But the growth I’ve experienced at Slalom hasn’t just been about technical skills or industry exposure. It’s also been deeply personal. I’ve found a workplace where I am truly seen and valued for who I am, not just what I do. The appreciation and acceptance I’ve felt from my colleagues have allowed me to embrace my authentic self more fully than ever before. In partnership with my ongoing work in therapy, I’ve noticed my ego soften, making space for greater empathy, collaboration, and resilience.

Life doesn’t pause for career milestones, and my time at Slalom has included some big personal decisions and transitions. I am grateful for how my work here has supported me through those chapters, helping me show up more fully for myself.

At the heart of it all is a spirit of continual learning. Consulting rewards curiosity. You’re encouraged to bring what you know, apply it in new ways, ask questions about what you don't know, and never stop growing. As I wrap up this series reflecting on my four years at Slalom, I feel immense gratitude for the journey so far—and excitement for what’s still ahead.

If you’re reading this and have been part of my story at Slalom, thank you for your impact on my journey and growth. Here’s to more learning, more growing, and more discovery in the years to come.
