What I Learnt About Using Media to Promote Myself From 3 Media Expert
Step 1: Know the WHY
Why am I doing it? What do I hope to achieve out of it? Ling Ling shared that we need to have our why very clearly in mind. Because our why will determine everything else that follows.
Step 2: Know your WHO
Glenn spoke about micro-targeting, to really know our audience inside out, and to know where they are. If they are Gen Z, then he recommends Tik-Tok. If they are baby boomers, then maybe live radio. So know what forms of media our audience is consuming, and be there. Ling Ling also mentioned in podcast, they profile a listener persona, an imaginary "typical listener" that is a concrete example of their ideal listener.
Step 3: Create the WHAT
Content is vital. Harish shared that the content we share should help our audience to solve their problems. Hard selling no longer works, and we should shy away from it.
Step 4: Choose your HOW
Here, the panelists disagree with each other as to whether it is better to focus on one platform or have a presence on as many platforms as possible. Harish believes it's better to be everywhere, while Glenn and Ling Ling feels time and resources are limited and that it would be better to focus on the one channel where your audience mostly are.
Conclusion
Finally, know that media is simply a tool for promoting your business. Whether social or traditional media isn't as important as where your audience is and why you are reaching out to them.
