Sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
From 21 October to 1 November, Colombia will host COP16 in Cali – the first COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, an historic agreement aimed at halting and reversing nature loss by 2030. This pivotal moment will bring together governments to assess progress and ramp up implementation action.

Highlights from the UN General Assembly
Key environment-related discussions focused on youth education, digital transformation, antimicrobial resistance, negotiations to combat plastic pollution and more. Here’s a recap of UNEP's activities in New York.
What’s next for work to address the scourge of plastic pollution?
Central to any solution to the plastic pollution crisis is a concept known as the “life-cycle approach.” It goes beyond recycling to reduce the environmental toll that plastic pollution takes at every stage, from production to its use and disposal. In just seven weeks, negotiators will gather in the Republic of Korea for the fifth and final round of discussions to finalise an international agreement on plastic pollution. FAQs and more.
Everyone, everywhere, can take action for a pollution-free planet.
By the numbers
Appeal to world leaders, urge your city, your bank and your employer to take urgent action on the climate crisis.
Worth a watch
