We’re proud to share a groundbreaking achievement in pediatric research and clinical care. 👏 🎉 Together with our partners at UConn Health, Connecticut Children's Research Institute has made history by dosing the first patient in a clinical trial using gene editing to treat GSD1a, a rare and serious metabolic disorder. This marks a world-first in the use of gene editing for this condition — and a powerful step forward in offering hope and new possibilities to children and families facing rare diseases. We're proud to share the exceptional work presented by the Hartford HealthCare Digestive Health Institute's Center for Obesity Research, Innovation and Education at the 2025 American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Meeting in Washington, DC. Dr. Sara Saeidi, MD delivered a Top Papers podium presentation titled "The Value of Patient Selection in Same-day Discharge Implementation", which received enthusiastic praise from the paper reviewer and the session moderators. She also presented a poster titled: "Associations of Internalized Weight Bias with Sensory Pain Characteristics prior to MBS". Dr. Amir Ebadinejad presented at Presidential Grand Rounds on "Is Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty as Safe as Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy?", a talk that sparked dynamic discussion. He also presented two posters: - "Concurrent Surgical Management of Achalasia and Obesity"  - "Redefining Clavien-Dindo Classification in MBSAQIP". Dr. Yin Wu presented at the Masters in Behavioral Health Pre-Conference Course on "Association between preoperative 24-hour movement behaviors and cardiometabolic health: a compositional isotemporal substitution analysis" earning congratulations from attendees. Tammy Piel, MSN, RN spoke at the MBSAQIP Coordinators Pre-Conference Course, presenting "More Than a Group: Fostering Community and Belonging", a powerful talk on engagement and support in care teams. Dr. Dale Bond moderated a session titled "Factors Hindering Physical Activity Behavior Change in Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Patients and Strategies to Overcome".  Dr. Pavlos Papasavas moderated a session on "Obesity and Cancer".
