We connect Veterans to their benefits by assisting in their interactions with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), including applying for pension and health care benefits. We will never forget Sergeant Nicole L. Gee, USMC. Nicole was raised in Roseville, California, before she joined the Marine Corps in 2017. She was clearly a cut above the rest, evident by her meritorious promotion to Sergeant while deployed to Kuwait on August 2, 2021, just a few weeks before she passed away. Today marks the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attack at Abbey Gate, in Kabul, Afghanistan where 13 brave U.S. service members, including Nicole, made the ultimate sacrifice during the U.S. military's withdrawal from Afghanistan. Our District 1 Supervisor, Bonnie Gore, cemented our community's commitment by presenting a proclamation, that August 26th is a Day of Remembrance for Sergeant Nicole Gee and the Abbey Gate 13. The presentation was made just as this morning's storm lifted, at the corner of Nicole Gee Drive in Roseville, CA. Beginning August 2025 and beyond, beneficiaries using Montgomery GI Bill (Chapters 1606 & 30) or Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35, DEA) benefits now have the option to verify their enrollment each month by text or email, in addition to existing options. 🎤 Today, I had the distinct honor of serving as a guest speaker at the California Department of the American Legion Area One meeting. This gathering brought together district commanders from Sacramento County all the way to the Oregon border—leaders who are deeply committed to serving veterans across Northern California. 1️⃣ We engaged in a powerful and timely discussion about mental health and suicide prevention in our communities.
