Farm Journal Media is one of America’s most respected and recognized media brands. A
leading business information and media company serving the agricultural market. Started 140
years ago with the preeminent Farm Journal magazine, the company serves the row crop,
livestock, produce and retail sectors through 26 branded websites, eNewsletters and phone
apps, 11 business magazines, 70 events, six nationally broadcasted television and radio
programs, a robust mobile text marketing business and an array of data-driven paid
information products.
Business Situation
Farm Journal has always been an initiator in deploying new technology and processes to meet
its business requirements. However, its existing system needed improvement because today’s
top producers crave reliable, timely, in-depth information and ideas. Their integrated,
multimedia channels converge on this passionately influential audience needed to be
revamped, so that they can surround their customers and prospects with consistent and
continual communications. Farm Journal wanted to synergize the functioning of its business
units. They were planning to centralize the scattered and distributed processes in order to
serve its customers better. They approached to Advanz101 to create a seamless Customer
Relationship Management (CRM) to accommodate the demands of its distributed business
units.
Technical Challenges
Farm Journal operates through its multiple business units covering the entire chain of food,
agriculture & minerals producers. The primary strategic business requirement was to
significantly enhance productivity and management information in the outbound sales and
customer relation. Each of the business units of Farm Journal operates almost independently,
using its own systems and processes. The company realized that in order to retain its
leadership position in the market, it needed to synergize the functioning of these units. Lead
management, reporting and key account activity planning and visibility were key deliverables.
They decided to revamp the system across the business divisions so that it could manage its
vast customer base across different geographies and market areas in a better way.
Advanz101’s expert team of CRM consultants had a deep analysis of their business model and
identified that existing system needed improvement in some key areas and suggested
following key aspects:
● There was a need for improved business synergy as Farm Journal business units were
functioning independently in different geographies using different systems for day-to-
day business. Being part of the same industry, they had a number of common
customers and similar needs that could be managed more efficiently through a unified
CRM system.
● They were facing challenges taking strategic decisions because in order to improve
decision-making and implement strategic initiatives at the corporate level, there was
a need for better internal collaboration amongst its business divisions and manpower
resources.
● The limited access to Internal Knowledge and critical business data that resided with
the end-users was not available to be shared across the organization effectively.
● There were challenges with customer insight as in order to improve its services, the
company was lacking for a global application that could provide a 360-degree view of
the customers.
● There were limitations with existing technology infrastructure as the business needed
a more user-friendly and flexible CRM based business model that could easily
accommodate each business division’s diverse needs, locations and other business
demands.
Advanz101 suggested implementing SuiteCRM

for having a better access to automate the
Marketing, Pre-Sales, Post Sales and customer relationship management processes. Also a set
