Evaluation Question
6
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
Technology Used
During the making and production of my magazine, I used
several technologies for research, planning and evaluating.
These include:
The Internet (Blogger, YouTube, Facebook Messenger,
Slideshare)
Microsoft PowerPoint
Nikon D3100
Photoshop CS6
Internet I used the internet for significant amount of work for my
productions, especially in the research. This was for researching
existing media, codes and conventions and tutorials. Blogger
was used to post my up to date work, which let me easily
access it whenever I needed to view it, and also was easy to
edit. To post PowerPoints onto my blog, such as my codes and
conventions, I used a website called Slideshare; which helped
with the presentation of my work. I used YouTube to find
tutorials on how to embed presentations and also multiple
Photoshop tutorials on editing/using the programme. This
helped as I could create a piece of work so realistic to a real
music magazine. I used Facebook to contact my models, so we
could arrange a time and a place for the shoot. I also used
Facebook to contact my focus group so I could gain opinions
and advice on my piece of work, which helped alter the final
piece in a positive way. With the use of instant messaging on
Facebook, I could quickly adapt the magazine within minutes.
The whole process would have been much more time
consuming without the use of the internet and todays
technologies.
Here is a tutorial I used when
making my production, it
helped me put text behind my
models head. This helped
show the importance of the
artist.
Here I used slideshare to
display a PowerPoint
about the codes and
conventions of front
covers, on my blog.
Here I have used
the internet to
search for the
image of my mock
up.
Blogger Posts on Tutorials
Here are some
tutorials which I have
posted on my blog, so
I can easily come back
to them for reference.
Microsoft PowerPoint
I used Microsoft PowerPoint to present my codes and
conventions as I found it easy to use, due to using it a lot
beforehand and I didn’t have to learn anything new. I also used
it to present my evaluation.
Slideshare
After creating the presentations on Microsoft PowerPoint, I uploaded them
to Slideshare which allowed me to show them on my blog. I didn’t know
how to embed the Slideshare at first, but after some searching on the
internet I found a tutorial on YouTube which helped.
3 PowerPoint's
which have been
uploaded to
slideshare to
present on my
blog.
Nikon D3100
I used the Nikon D3100 to take the images for my magazine. This played a major part
in the production of my magazine and the images were definitely one of the main
focuses and selling points for my focus group. I used a 16GB SD Card which had a
large memory allowing me to take over 175 photos for my production. I could also
view images right after I had shot them which was very useful for me as I could alter
things such as the aperture and ISO of the camera as I carried on with the shoot, this
enabled me to take the best image possible.
Here are some
images I have taken
playing with the
camera’s settings,
such as the ISO.
Photoshop
Before starting media studies, I had used Photoshop a few times just to mess
around with images, but never used it properly. Therefor the programme
was basically new to me. Throughout the task I used YouTube to watch a lot
of tutorials and experimented with the programme a lot, this helped me
understand how to use Photoshop so much more.
The most useful tutorial I found was ‘Photoshop Tutorial: How to Place Text
Behind an Object in a Photo’ by Justin Odisho on YouTube. This helped
dramatically in the final production of my front cover, as I could position the
text perfectly behind the model therefor making the model the most
important part of the front cover, pulling in the audience.
Here is the
tutorial I used.
Conclusion
In conclusion, technology played a huge role in my work, due to
me using it for basically every aspect of the task. Without the
use of technology my work would have looked far less
professional. Without the internet, I wouldn't’t have been able
to learn how to use Photoshop as quick as I did. Overall, the use
of technology has made my magazine look much more
professional.
