OVERVIEW OF CFRHP WITH A
      TOUCH OF ICT
        WEST MAMPRUSI DISTRICT

BRIEF OF CFRHP
• The Catholic Family Reproductive Health Project
  (CFRHP) started as an off-shoot of a then
  Catholic Agricultural Project.
• In 1996, the organisation and the Integrated
  Social Development Centre (ISODEC) entered
  into partnership to implement a Family
  Reproductive Health Programme and the
  Programme took off the following year in seven
  pilot communities.
BRIEF OF CFRHP CONTD.
• Eventually, the Project saw the need to move
  further than just message delivery on RH
  issues but also other social and economic
  needs in life as well as know and access
  reproductive health rights to include advocacy
  on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive
  Health.
SERVICE COMPONENTS OF CFRHP
CFRHP works on five service components of
  Reproductive Health, namely:
• Safe motherhood,
• Family planning,
SERVICE COMPONENTS CONTD.
• Prevention and treatment of Reproductive Tract
  Infections (RTI), including Sexually Transmitted
  Infections (STI) and HIV/AIDS,
• Discouragement of harmful traditional practices
  that affect the reproductive health of men and
  women such as female genital cutting,
• Information and counselling on human sexuality,
  responsible sexual behaviour, responsible
  parenthood, preconception care and sexual
  health.
PROJECT OPERATIONAL AREA
•   The Project operates in thirteen communities of the West Mamprusi District and
    nine schools, where Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health is implemented,
    namely:
•   Zangum                    Walewale Snr. High Tech. School
•   Zangu-Vuga                Wulugu Snr. High School
•   Zangu-Yakura              Walewale Vocational School
•   Bugiya-Paala              Zangum SDA Junior High School
•   Kata                      Bugiya D/A Junior High School
•   Diani                     Kukua/Loagri R/C Junior High School
•   Nayorku                   Gbani R/C Junior High School
•   Silinga                   Nayorku D/A Junior High School
•   Karimenga                 Gbimsi R/C Junior High School
•   Kpabugu
•   Gaagbini
•   Sayoo
•   Kayafongu
STRATEGIES FOR PROJECT
           IMPLEMENTATION
• The organisation has a Health Outreach Team,
  which visits the communities where the team
  undertakes immunisations, Health education
  including improved infant feeding and treatment
  of minor ailments. The project implementation
  team comprises of a community health nurse,
  youth coordinator, Women Groups Organiser and
  project manager. This team visits all outreach
  points monthly to render these services. Team
  members also render home visits and other visits
  on regular basis.
STRATEGIES CONTD.
• Community durbars on responsible
  parenthood and need for skilled delivery
• Education on the use of ITN
• Video shows on HIV/AIDS, STI,
• Community Sensitization on dangers of
  migration for young women, to Southern
  Ghana.
Some activities utilised during project
           implementation
Activities carried out to realise results include the
  following:
• Encourage community participation in health
  planning and delivery of services.
• Collaborate with TBA and community for
  effective referral system
• Maternal Health Services
• Promote improved infant and young child feeding
• Infant health services including Immunisation

CFRHP BEFORE ICT
             (COMMUNICATION)
Message delivery used to be in the following
  methods:
• Verbally to community volunteers through
  market women on market days
• Programme messages delivered to smaller
  groups in the communities and schools.
• Programme messages delivered through
  posters
Video shows were done through big and fragile
equipment (television sets and video decks)
carried to and from communities on donkey
carts

  texts on phones.
• Quizzes are organised in schools and prizes are
  awarded to deserving candidates.
• Drama on specific Sexual and Reproductive
  Health issues are video recorded for replay to
  larger audiences.
AWARDS AFTER A QUIZZ
   COMPETITION
PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING IN SESSION
• Now CFRHP produces and submits all reports
  in both soft and hard copies.
• Reports are justified by appropriate photos
• Staff are now getting to know how to use the
  internet profitably.
• CFRHP now give basics of computer
  appreciation to pupils in Basic schools.
