Content sharing We’ve already looked at some types of content sharing: Text (blogs, wikis) Audio (podcasts) Video (vodcasts) As well as these, there are many other types of content that can be shared: Maps Bookmarks Photos Events Presentations (slides) Reviews (books, movies, music) Feed subscriptions, etc.

Content++ Content has been included in web pages for some time “ Embedded links” Content that is posted on “Web 2.0” sites brings some new features: Content is linked to the creator Content can be shared to the public Content can be tagged for easy classification and retrieval In content containers Comments can be added to content items You can be notified about new content via RSS feeds More about this in the next lecture

- 10. Using Flickr You now must now login with a Yahoo! account Flickr is owned by Yahoo! Upload some pictures: Select some image from your hard drive Add tags Can mark regions of interest and annotate them (“add note”) Don’t forget to “choose your Flickr web address” if you want to get a permanent URL Then you will get something like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yourUserName/ http://www.flickr.com/people/yourUserName/

Flickr is useful for… … adding text (descriptions) and tags (keywords) to your pictures … organising your pictures: By date (upload or real “taken on” date using EXIF) - “organizer” tab By tag, description, etc. - “search” tab … controlling who can access your photos: Can define each picture’s visibility: Private, public, only friends, only family

Flickr is also useful for… … adding and getting comments on each picture … social networking: You can add (Flickr) friends and exchange messages with them You can create groups and belong to other’s created groups ...uploading and publishing photos in various ways: Can upload pictures to Flickr by e-mail, or using desktop utilities Can also publish your pictures to your blog (or website using “badges”)

Flickr disadvantages You cannot export your data You cannot modify (can only rotate) your pictures You have to pay if you want: To allow higher resolution (>800x600) viewing of your images To create more photo sets (limited to three in the free version) To be able to post to more than 10 groups To upload many (large) pictures, since the free version is limited to 100MB transfer per month Similar site called Zooomr Yes, that’s three Os!

You can export all your information: Under “settings”, “export” When you want “different boxes”, you can classify your tags using bundles You can create / delete your bundles: Click on “arrange tags” A new way of visualisation, the “cloud view”: You can see a simple list of your tags, or you can view them in a cloud - try it!
