C. Subtract from selection
The selection that you made will be will
be removed from the existing selection.
D. Intersect with selection
This selection option will create a
selection in the intersection of two
selections.
E. Feather
It is used to blur edges of a selection. You can
change the intensity of the feather effect by
specifying the feather value from 0 -250 pixels
at the textbox.
F. Anti-alias
This option smoothen the hard edges of the
selection when selected. This option is
available with the lasso tool, polygonal lasso,
magnetic lasso, magic wand tool, and
elliptical marquee tool.
G. Style
It provides three style options that you can
choose from in performing a selection.
 Normal
This is the default option. It lets you to freely
create a selection by dragging the mouse over an
image.
 Fixed aspect ratio
This style option is use to create a proportional
selection based on the specified width and height
ratio.
 Fixed size
This style option is used to create a fixed size
selection based on the supplied width and
height of the selection in pixel , inches or
centimeter.
H. Refine edge button
It activates the refine edge dialog box which
lets you define or modify the selection edges.

a. Radius
This option is used to increase the size of the
region around the selection boundary in
which edge refinement is applied. Increase
the radius to create a more exact selection
boundary in areas with soft transitions or
fine details, such as hair or blurred
boundaries.
b. Contrast
This section is used to sharpen the soft
selection edges.
c. Smooth
It removes rough areas around the selection
d. Feather
It softens the selection edges with a uniform
blur.
e. Contract/ Expand
It is used to shrink or expand the selection
boundary.
f. Preview Options
It present options in viewing the selection in
different background.
c.
Use to make a single row selection
d.
Use to make a single column selection
II. Lasso tools
a. Lasso tool
Used to make a free form selection by dragging the
mouse around the area of the image to be selected.
b. Polygonal Lasso tool
Used to draw selections in whatever shape you
would like .
c. Magnetic Lasso tool
Used to quickly select object or an area in the
image which has contrasting edges. It automatically
selects the edges by snapping the selected border
to the edges of the object or the area in the image
being selected.
a. Width
It specifies the direction width in pixels. The
width value ranges from 1- 256 pixels. This tool
will only detect edges within the specified pixel
distance from the mouse pointer.
b. Contrast
It specifies the contrast value in order for the
magnetic lasso to adjust its sensitivity in
detecting edges. The contrast value ranges from
1% to 100%. A large contrast value will result to
detecting high contrast edges , while a small
contrast value will detect low contrast edges
h
c. Frequency
It specifies the rate of setting the fastening
points. The frequency value ranges from 0 –
100. A higher frequency value will attach the
selection border to the edges more quickly . It
also has so many fastening points.
h
III.
Ideal in selecting a part of the image based
on its color. This selection tool creates a
selection based on the color of the pixels of
the image area that is clicked.
 Tolerance
This option is used to adjust the color range to
be included in the selection. Tolerance value
ranges from 0 – 255 pixels. The default
tolerance value is 32 pixels. Setting a lower
tolerance value will only select colors which
are very similar to the color of the pixel that
you click, while setting a higher tolerance
value will select a wider range of color.
 Contiguous
When this option is selected, only nearby
areas with the same color as the clicked pixel
will be selected. Otherwise, all areas of the
image with the same color as the clicked pixel
will be included in the selection.
 Sample all layers
If this is selected, the magic wand tool will
select colors based on the color data of the
visible layers. Otherwise it will only select
colors based on the color data of the active
layer.
IV.
Used to make selections by painting
within the area of the image that you
want to be selected. This tool is smarter
and more precise than the magic wand
tool.
 Brush
This option lets you select the brush size
(diameter), hardness, and spacing of the quick
selection tool brush tip. You can also increase
the brush tip size by pressing the right bracket
and decrease the brush tip size by pressing the
left bracket .
 Auto- enhance
It reduces the roughness of the selection
edges. It is similar to setting the smooth ,
contrast and radius options in the refine edge
dialog box. Selecting this option
automatically applies the edge refinement
options available in the Refine Edge
command as you paint the selection but the
effect is more subtle compared to manually
setting and applying the Refine Edge options.
 Sample all layers
Creates a selection based on all layers instead
of just the currently selected layer.
Crop ToolV.
It crops the image to the size you have
created. Any information that was
outside the selection will be removed.
VI.
Used mostly for building websites,
or splitting up one image into
smaller ones when saving out.
VII.
Allows you to move selected things or
layers around. Hold the shift key to
limit the movements to either
vertical/horizontal.
