The document summarizes a study on the potential of shea nuts to support livelihoods in Magwi County, South Sudan. Over 100 community members, mostly women, were interviewed about shea. Key findings were that shea trees have been an important part of livelihood strategies, especially during hunger gaps. However, lack of organization in shea production and marketing results in fluctuating prices within small areas. It is recommended to further analyze supply and demand constraints to understand the full shea market chain and identify commercial opportunities to stabilize prices. Establishing a local market information system could help collectors and processors.
