This document discusses the representation of social class in British TV drama. It begins by outlining that today's British class system is more complex than the traditional upper, middle, and working classes. There are now seen to be 7 social classes. It then analyzes how the different social classes are portrayed in TV through aspects like mise-en-scene, filming techniques, sound, and dialogue. The upper classes are often portrayed as eccentric or nostalgic. The middle classes are depicted as normal, family-oriented lives. The lower classes are represented as chaotic, brash, and unable to care for themselves or their homes. The media is seen to promote middle class values as the social norm or ideal.
