This document analyzes the impact of virtualizing workloads onto servers using different generations of Intel Xeon processors, including the 7500 series. It finds consolidation ratios onto the 7500 series are 2.2-2.8 times higher than the previous generation. For a sample 554 server environment, consolidation onto the 7500 series reduced power consumption by 51% compared to the previous generation. The 7500 series also better balances CPU and memory utilization.
