NOIR VS NEO-NOIR

                                Present and past
As classic “noir” has to have been made in the 40s and 50s any film which is
made now is automatically assigned with the title of “Neo(new)-noire”.

Some critics argue that noir itself is not actually a genre, its just a feeling
within a film, a collection of tropes which when put together(silhouettes and
broken light) make a noir tone. Neo noir as a genre has made on total with all
movies $587,310,387 and on average $9,176,725 is made from each film.
THRILLER/SUSPENSE

                THRILLER/SUSPENCE 1995 to 2012
                            Movie: 561
                   Total Gross: $15,495,734,985
                    Average Gross: $27,621,631
                       Market Share: 8.12%

Se7en was the highest grossing film of 1995 with $87,046,142. Thriller
and suspense are the closes genres to classic noir.
NEO-NOIR

                                 The Dark Knight

The Dark knight took in $158,411,483 on its opening weekend and boosted the sub -
genre into the mainstream. Overall, worldwide it took in $1,002,891,358, a massive
take in for neo-noir. The Dark Knight also contained the biggest budget ever for a noir
                            movie- a gigantic $185,000,000.

The film posters where made with a
                                        pessimistic, dark outlook
                                        conforming to noirs themes of
                                        silhouettes and shade.
DISTRIBUTE

                          WB and Dimension Films

Warner Bros have made a large profit over the last few years with dark noir
tones throughout their films. WB’s three highest grossing film are The Dark
Knight, The Dark Knight Rises then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Part 2. However, Dimension Films seems to have lucked upon the neo-noir
genre as their top three films are Spy Kids 3D: Game Over, Scary Movie 3 and
Scream, quite bland films without much meaningful thought or positive critic
                                    reproach.
