Located near an arterial road and collec-
tor roads, the site gains much exposure to
daily vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Two parks are located within walking
distance of the site and small trees line
the cross roads of the site.
The site has the benefit of being on a
corner lot with low rise buildings surround-
ing it allowing for the utilization of natural
light within the building.

STUDY | CONCEPT
The concept of the project developed from the idea of dividng the building into three main
programs: View, Interact and Learn, and Create. The goal was to separate the spaces so the
user would have to cross through the interact and learn space to get to the galleries or
woodshop. These three spaces are represented within the form of the building by extruding
parts of the program to create distinct parts for the user to identify.

DESIGN | SUSTAINABILITY
Located under the 3rd story cantilever opening is perme-
able to handle rainwater falling through the opening. The
porous concrete is composed of only large pieces of ag-
gregate creating larger void spaces for water to pass
through. The use of permeable cocnrete will be visually dif-
ferent from the rest of the terrace to further help differntiate
the space under the cantilever from the rest of the terrace

On the north-east corner of the proposed building is a
public sculpture park (2,300 sq ft). A public entrance is
located on the third floor . This greenspace is covered by
aluminum louvers to help control sunlight entering the
space while allowing for rain water to be retained.
