What is the OpenStack® Project?
• “OpenStack is a global collaboration of
developers and cloud computing technologists
producing the ubiquitous open source cloud
computing platform for public and private
clouds.”*
• Founded by Rackspace Hosting and NASA in
July 2010
• History of the OpenStack Project
• One of the fastest growing open source
projects today:
• Over 200 participating organizations
• Nearly 12,000 individual participants

• Grizzly: current release
• Havana: to be released in October 2013

• Plans for next release made at OpenStack Summit,
which occurs shortly after each major release
• Portion of Summit is a technical, working discussion
• Blueprints are submitted and discussed at the Summit
• If blueprints accepted, development and testing of code follow
