supermarkets and returned to the
Compton distribution center.

DILUTION
Wastewater diverted from the adjacent
food manufacturing plant is recycled—
providing the hot water necessary to run
the Recovery System.

PURIFICATION
Refinement during the digestion
process creates a clean water that can
be recycled back into the system or
discharged to the sanitary sewer.

BIOGAS
This renewable fuel is converted into
electricity, steam and heat. The clean
energy offsets a significant portion of
the distribution center’s energy demand.

BLENDING
Feedstock (biodegradable material)
entering the Recovery System is liquified
and non-biodegradable material (glass,
metal, plastic) is removed.

DIGESTION
A natural, anaerobic (without oxygen)
process converts the carbon of the
liquid feedstock into a clean and
renewable fuel called biogas.

FERTILIZER
After the digestion process, the
remaining minerals and organic solids
are dewatered, producing a natural
and nutrient-rich fertilizer.
