Big Bazaar is the largest hypermarket chain in India. In commerce, a hypermarket is a superstore combining
a supermarket and a department store. The result is an expansive retail facility carrying a wide range of
products under one roof, including full groceries lines and general merchandise.
Big Bazaar, the flagship retail chain of the Future Group, is on the verge of achieving a unique milestone in
the History of World Retail by being the first hypermarket format in the globe to rollout fastest 101 stores
in a short span of seven years.
Big Bazaar’s journey began in October 2001, when the young, first generation entrepreneur Kishore Biyani
opened the country’s first hypermarket retail outlet in Kolkata (then Calcutta). In the same month, two more
stores were added one each in Hyderabad and Mumbai, thus starting on a successful sojourn which began
the chapter of organized retailing in India.
Though, Big Bazaar was started purely as a fashion format including apparel, cosmetics, accessory and
general merchandise, the first Food Bazaar format was added as Shop-In-Shop within Big Bazaar in the
year 2002. Today, Big Bazaar, with its wide range of products and service offering, reflects the aspirations
of millions of Indians.
The journey of Big Bazaar can be divided into two phases one pre-and the other post January 26th, 2005,
when the company rewrote the retail chapter in India, with the introduction of a never-before sales campaign
“Sasbe Sasta Din”. In just one day, almost the whole of India descended at various Big Bazaar stores in the
country to shop at their favorite shopping destination. Further, what followed was the time and again
rewriting of the Indian Retail experience, wherein understanding of the Indian consumers reflected in the
products and services offered, creating innovative deals, expanding in the tier II and tier III towns, tying up
with branded merchandise to offer exclusive products and services to its customers.
Rajan Malhotra, who is also the first employee of Big Bazaar, joining the organization in early 2001 adds,
since beginning, we have kept Big Bazaar as a soft brand, which reflects the India and the Indianess. We
believed in growing with the society, participating and celebrating all regional and local community
festivals, giving customers preferences above everything else.
Kishore Biyani, the CEO of the Future Group, has a vast understanding of the consumer’s insight, has
inculcated the habit of observing, understanding customers’ behavior, in every employee of the group.
Future Group is confident of the Indian Retail Story. The Group has not slowed down its expansion plans
despite the fiscal woes in the economy present today.

Future Group
Future Group is an Indian private conglomerate, headquartered in Mumbai. The company
is known for having a significant prominence in Indian retail and fashion sectors, with
popular supermarket chains like Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar, lifestyle stores like Brand
Factory, Central etc. and for having notable presence in integrated foods and FMCG
manufacturing sectors. Future Retail (initially Pantaloons Retail India Ltd (PRIL)) and Future Lifestyle
Fashions, two operating companies of Future Group, are among the top retail companies listed in BSE with
respect to assets, and in NSE with respect to market capitalization.
On May 2012, Future Group announced 50.1% stake sale of its fashion chain Pantaloons to Aditya Birla
Group in order to reduce its debt of around 80 billion (US$1.2 billion). To do so, Pantaloons fashion segment
was demerged from Pantaloons Retail India Ltd; the latter was then merged to another subsidiary—Future
Value Retail Ltd—and rechristened Future Retail Ltd.

Big Bazaar 5 Days Maha Bachat 13th Aug to 17th Aug 2016
I did my live project in Big Bazaar presents a five day ‘Mahabachat’ shopping mela from August 13th to
17th August. There were great discounts. In addition to that there were discount given for food products,
fabrics, furniture and home appliances. If you love shopping, then you have not missed this amazing offer.
Also, extra 10% discount were given on shopping with Axis bank cards or 15% cashback with PayTm
wallet. This Big Bazaar Maha Bachat sale, get fabulous deals on a wide range of products ranging from
groceries to home needs to kitchen ware, only at Big Bazaar.
 CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK
I worked at the Customer Service Desk (CSD) where I handled enquiries about customers’ problem and
issues related to product or services. Made announcement for the staffs as well as for the customers. There
are some gifts that are also issued at the customer service desk and issues related to the bills or ay missing
items etc.
 SALES OF KURKURE
Kurkure is a brand of corn puffs, developed and produced by PepsiCo India, the Indian division of PepsiCo.
Named after the Hindi word for "crunchy", the snack was developed entirely in India. It was launched in
1999 and has its automated plants at Channo (Punjab), Kolkata, Assam and Pune, Krisnagiri (Tamil Nadu),
Haryana and Telangana.
 COUPONS ISSUING
3000 pe 3000
I got to work in coupon counter where I issued coupons for the customers who have made a purchase worth
rupees 3000 and they are entitled to get a coupon worth rupees 3000. And solved issues related coupons and
enquiries about coupons.
 HR MANAGEMENT
I got opportunity to work with the Madam Amrita, HR - Big Bazaar, Shona Road, Gurgaon, Haryana.
Since it was Big Bazaar’s 5 Days Maha Bachat (13th Aug to 17th Aug 2016) so lots of customers were
expected to rush to the store that is why the company/store tripled their present number of workforce. So,
the company had arranged meals for the employees for both in-house staff member and for those who
represented other brands. SO, breakfast-lunch-dinner. I issued meal coupons for the total number of
employees who will be present in that shift. I distributed foods for the staffs, maintained decorum and again
issued coupons for the next meal.
There I helped her with lots of work including recruiting (through interviews and recording their statement
in hard copy, verifying their certificates etc.), enquiring the employees about their leave for work, issuing
IDs, check payrolls and resignation of an employee, assigning work for the news employees.

Learning
After finishing 5-day internship with Big Bazaar 5 Days Maha Bachat 13th Aug to 17th Aug 2016
Campaign. The experience was awesome, being posted in the CSD (Customer Service Desk), Coupon
Counter, HRM.
The 2 most important things I learnt were the back-end operations of the store and the interaction with
variety of people including employees at the ground level, customers as well as the senior managers. The
systems operations were very robust especially during such campaigns, highlighted the functioning of the
retail stores.
Being in such a department, I got aware of the inherent flaws of the billing system, the attitude of the
management towards customer service, the proactiveness of the management in taking corrective action and
so on. We were shuffled among various departments and were even asked about our choice of section. The
management was cooperative and we were taken good care of. All in all, it was great to work on such Live
Project.
I thank NDIM, for giving such an opportunity that will come a long way in understanding sales and other
aspects of business.
Suggestions for the Company
The Store works fine at present the customers are well satisfied as well as the employees are satisfied with
their job. According to me the only thing that requires attention is that employees’ strength, at some
department I felt there is a need for more employee like for example in food section. And quite a number of
time there was issue regarding customer taking away things that are not included in bills.
