Ozone (O3) is a reactive gas that protects Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the stratosphere, while at ground level, it becomes a harmful pollutant. The ozone layer absorbs 97-99% of UV light, essential for life, and is formed through photolysis of oxygen molecules; however, human-made chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) deplete it. Damage to the ozone layer increases risks such as skin cancer, reduced crop yields, and harm to marine life.
