Student data is collected by educational technology companies but laws around who owns that data are unclear. Key laws like FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA were created before widespread data collection but aim to protect students' privacy. Simply agreeing to vague terms of service does not clearly address who truly owns and can use students' educational records and data.
