Introduction

Why was the T-3 Program created?

The program was established based off a need exposed
by the NCAA Career in Sports Forum from student
athletes. It was also inspired from a NCAA.

There are over 400,000 NCAA student-athletes and
most of us will go pro in something other than sports.
-NCAA
Program Objectives

• T-3 program series was created to enhance services for 200 division
I student athletes at St. Francis College.

• The program fosters basic career skills to improve the career
  development process of student-athletes.

• Working with the athletics department to collaborate on student-
  athletes professional goals.
Mission and Goal

T-3 Program
“STRENGTHEN YOUR CAREER OFFENSE”

Mission Statement
The St. Francis College Career Development Center’s mission is to prepare all students for a rewarding career.
Our ultimate goal is to assist our students in gaining autonomy to develop their own identity and purpose. The T-
3 (Terrier Total Training) program has been established for student-athletes to plan the next step beyond their
sport. The program will provide opportunities to explore career options, develop job search skills, and make
informed career decisions based on their skills and interests. Student-athletes who combine the lessons learned
from athletic competition and the educational opportunities afforded by our college will be well-prepared to
meet the challenges of today’s ever-changing world.

Goal
The goal of the T-3 program is to train and enable St. Francis College student-athletes to become more
competitive in the workforce. A series of career based programs will equip each athlete with the tools needed
for professional development beyond their sporting arenas. The T-3 program will offer a range of workshops on
various topics. Moreover the goal of the T-3 program is to develop students to become leaders as they evolve
into well-rounded individuals.
Program Steps

• Created a position (T-3 Coordinator) for a student-athlete to work within the
Career Development Center assisting with marketing, outreach, creation of
    interactive workshops and presentations.

• Met with Athletics Director to discuss the program buy in and the benefits
    for student-athletes.

• Discuss the T-3 Program with coaches and student-athletes at their
    respective meetings.

• Work with the Sports Information Department to gain photos of student-
athletes for the T-3 brochure (on and off the court.)

• E-mail Athletic Director and the Director of Compliance to have workshop
information sent to coaches and student-athletes. E-mails were also sent to
coaches and student-athletes as a reminder follow up from the Career
    Development Center.
Program Steps

• Worked with the Athletics Department to obtain fall and spring lists of new student-athletes
    contact information.

• Promoted events on the Facebook T-3 Program page and posted flyers in all athletic facilities
    (i.e., workout areas, lockers, gyms.)

• Programs were planned on Thursdays, 11:10-12:10 (1 hour) during common hour which classes
are not held. Workshops were also held in the dorms from 5 pm- 6 pm before evening
    classes.

• Food and giveaways were provided at all workshops.

• A tracking card was given to each student-athlete in attendance. The card tracked
attendance at all career development center related events even outside of the T-3 Program.
After six events were attended student-athletes would receive an incentive. (i.e., school
food service $5.00 gift card, Chipotle gift card, SFC gear)

• Survey student- athletes on the T-3 program

• Upon competition of all the workshops the student-athletes, coaches and full teams would
receive a certificate of recognition and a t-shirt at the Student Athletic Dinner and/or SGA
    Awards Dinner.
Challenges Faced

• Support from team coaches and athletics
• Funding for the program which money was not
allotted for the pilot program year (2010-2011)
• Fear of low attendance of student-athletes during
their common hour (free period) and in the dorms
  (evening.)
Planned Career Programing

• Resume and Cover Letter
• Career Fair Preparation
• Interviewing Skills
• Job and Internship Search
• Networking
• Social Media and Personal Branding
• My Plan Career Assessments-Self Assessments
