  • #2: https://twitter.com/luclalande http://ca.linkedin.com/in/luclalande/ Developing the Innovators’ Mindset: The role of “Play” and “Making” The process of making not only gives meaning it changes your worldview. The discovery of your ability to create something changes your view on your potential to change the world.

  • #4: Creative Mashup – new game “Ping Pong Hockey” fusion of table tennis, hockey and basketball
  • #5: TRS-80 (1979) – early PC used to calculate odds for pool tournament; recognizing the potential of a tool to do something new and innovative
  • #6: Intellectual Property, patents, non-disclosure and secrecy – can innovation flourish in this kind of environment?
  • #7: Open source: What is going on here and why is it important to innovation?
  • #8: Maker Movement in communities: hackerspaces, makerspaces and FabLabs http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/ http://www.fabfoundation.org/fab-labs/
  • #9: Deconstructing “Play”. What did it mean to say I was more “innovative” in my younger days? Made me question where do I find this “play”-driven culture that sparks wonder?
  • #10: Maker Movement (in Ottawa it was Artengine that embraced this movement). Maker Values: Be Open (Share); Embrace Imperfection (Expect mistakes as opportunity to learn); Trust the process (of making) more than the outcome; Build Community (everyone is welcomed)
  • #11: Signals: Mini Maker Faire attendance is sky-rocketing (in Ottawa and globally)

  • #14: Seymour Papert (Constructionism) and Jean Piaget (Constructivism) http://www.papert.org/ Constructionism is a Philosophy of Education. The belief is that learning is more effective when people are active learners while creating tangible objects in the real world.  Learning is reconstruction rather than transmission of knowledge. Learners explore and discover while being guided by constructivist ideas. Learners construct mental models while also constructing a meaningful project. http://idtoolbox.eseryel.com/seymour-paperts--constructionism.html The Maker Movement and the Rebirth of Constructionism http://www.hybridpedagogy.com/journal/constructionism-reborn/ The critical capacity of Maker empowerment. By maker empowerment, we mean not only having a heightened sensitivity to the designed dimension of our world, but also having an inclination toward tinkering with it and an increased capacity to do so. We believe that maker-empowered young people will be well positioned to thrive in a global, complex, and designed world. • #15: Self-Efficacy (the sense that you can attain what you set out to do) through a series of small steps guiding them from a position of fear/anxiety to self-efficacy. The importance of small wins is critical. "Enactive self-mastery" is most effective when achieved through progressive mastery by breaking down difficult steps that are relatively easy.  It also requires structuring situations that bring rewarding successes and avoids the experience of repeated failures.
  • #16: Access to tools is about empowering learners. Source: How the Maker Movement is Transforming Education http://www.weareteachers.com/hot-topics/special-reports/how-the-maker-movement-is-transforming-education

  • #21: Serious Play – freedom (agency); cooperation (social group); diversity (transdisciplinary) Ariane Koek: “Where the arts and science are in fluid interchange—just as they were in the time of Leonardo da Vinci, when he moved easily between the two. Here, the disciplines are honoured for their similarities as well as their essential differences.” Keith Tyson: “If you attempt to marry and equate art with science, then you fail. If you allow what is not similar about art and science, and their different methods and processes, to co-exist and thrive, then a real art/science collaboration and aesthetic will emerge. But at the end of the day, art and science are united by one logic and one impulse—both are attempts to understand what it is to be human and the world around us.” Source: http://www.theartnewspaper.com/articles/Cern%3a+where+art+and+science+collide/24678 Continuous interplay between creative (unconstrained by boundaries) and critical thinking (recognition of real-world constraints).
