CONCLUSIONS • Most of the people think that they are aware about the Terms and Conditions of social networking sites. • Almost everybody has a Facebook Account. • People spending more than 4 hours a typical day are addicted to Social Networking sites. • People above the age of 25 are less addicted to these sites as compared to the people below age of 25. • Users do not feel fully Secure while using these social networking sites

Case Study 1: Negative Impact • A 13-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly making an online threat to bomb Marina Bay Sands (luxury casino resort in the city). • In his Facebook post, he said that the day he leaves Singapore, he is going to take “a big revenge,” “spit everywhere” and “plant bombs on Marina Bay Sands.” • According to his Facebook profile, which reportedly has since been taken down, he attended the Global Indian International School in Queenstown, and is from New Delhi. • An Internet user who saw it made a police report.

Should the boy be punished? • Yes! • Those found guilty of falsely threatening terrorist acts face being fined up to $100,000, jailed for up to five years, or both. • But, As in this case boy is a juvenile the boy should be fined and should be deported. How to avoid such cases? • We must know the terms and conditions of the social networking site we are using. • We should not post anything offensive on a social networking site. • .Users should report any kind of social threat. • Legal action should be taken.

Case Study 2: Positive Impact • Twenty-two-month-old Iona Stratton had been fighting infant acute lymphoblastic leukaemia since soon after her birth. • But because of her half-Chinese, half- English background, her family couldn't find a bone marrow donor to match her rare type. • In October 2008, her parents made an appeal on Facebook. • More than 5,500 people around the world signed up and, eventually, a match was found in Australia.

LEGAL IMPLICATIONS Legal implications are the consequences of being involved in something, as determined by the law. • Information Security Legal Risk Organizations that employ social media face several information security legal issues, which can be broken into 3 broad categories : Potential liability due to a breach of the organization’s security. Social engineering and spoofing attacks against users or “fans”. Leakage of third party confidential information.
- 18. • Privacy Posting photographs and video without proper releases may violate the privacy or publicity rights of individuals. • Unauthorized Use of Trademarks or Copyright- Protected Works Social media sites allow users and companies to post content, including content that may be copyrighted or trademarked. • Defamation Issues Social media environments provide a forum for defamatory statements to be made about individuals, and disparaging remarks to be made about companies’ products and services.
- 19. • Employment Law Issues Many organizations use social media to vet candidates for employment and as part of background checks. • Advertising Law Employees who truly love their company’s offerings and tweet about them or discuss them on message boards are supposed to disclose that they are employed by the company. • Electronic Discovery and Evidence While posts on social networking sites are often shorter than traditional emails, they create problems precisely because they are shorter and thus require more explanation.
