Lab Description – Part A
• There are two parts: Part A and Part B
• Part A deals with 2 forces in equilibrium. The setup

Review of Lab Safety and Procedures
• For Part B, get two sets of data (all angles must be
different).
• Please work responsibly and do not fool around.
• Use the scales properly:
– Do not overextend the springs
– Try to obtain readings that require a deflection of
about one quarter to three quarters as measured on
the scale.
– Readings should be in Newtons (not grams)
• Record your data on the working paper taped to
your desk. Keep this paper at the end of the lab!
• Clear your desk before starting and spend a minute
to re-read the lab instructions in the workbook.
Teacher Demonstrations
• Making a loop at each end of the string.
• Tie string to elastic
• Use of spring scale and calibration of scale.
• Comment on the two types of scales.
• Students may now get materials from front
desk and start lab.
