Ntc 362 Week 2, Integrative Network Design Project , Part 1By Alucard1990 | Studymode.com Kudler Fine Foods Network Overview Name University of Phoenix NTC 362 Date Instructor Upon reviewing Kudler Fine Food network, it has been determined that a major network overhaul will need to be conducted to make sure that Kudler is brought up to speed with the latest technology. This is very important because if Kudler is unable to keep up with the technological advances then the company will fall behind. Making sure that Kudler is not only able to keep up with the advances with network systems it is also important to install the proper systems so that no money is wasted. What is meant by this is that if the improper systems and storage units are installed to only handle data over the next year this is only going to force Kudler to spend more money in upgrades in the future. This is why it is vital to install the
- 2. proper systems that will provide room for future network expansion without having to waste money on unnecessary upgrades. The following is a list of problem areas with the Kudler network: • 56K modems provide slow connections speeds • Host systems at all site running Window 98 – over 10 years old • Windows NT servers are at the Delmar and Lajolla sites – over 10 years old. • The XLS servers at the Delmar and Lajolla sites are running Office 97 – over 15 years old. • The Novell Servers at the Delmar and Lajolla sites are running this was released in 1994. – over almost 20 years old. • All sites have a stand lone ups system that will need upgraded to provide a redundant power supply to support new systems. One of the first things that were noticed was that fact that all of the sites are still running 56k modems. This is an old technology and is only hindering the speed between each site. Having the proper connection speed is vital to provide real time updates not only for the profits made each day, but providing the inventory updates on the products that are sold so that those items can be restocked without waiting. These modems will be removed to make the way for the new wide area network and within each site there will be a wireless local area network. The WAN will link all of the site networks together which will in turn boost the network speed and the way employees communicate. The communication aspect of the new network will incorporate a VoIP system and will be managed at one central location. “The great thing about VoIP is that it taps additional value from the already existing infrastructure without additional costs” This will provide the highest quality of phone

Another issue that issue that is hindering the speed and efficiency on the network is the fact that all the host systems being used within all the sites are Windows 98. These systems are well over ten years old and are in dire need of an upgrade. To Windows 7 would provide the ability for the employees to use the most powerful sales tools on the market. This will enhance the ability to view real time inventory stats while making sure that all the shelves are stock and profits are maximized. In order for the host systems to receive the real time updates, the severs at the Delmar and Lajolla stores will also need updated. Both stores are using Windows NT Server which is another system that is over ten years old. The built in modem that is installed and cd rom is unless to the company at this point because there are newer and faster products that will be installed on the new server. The other XLS server at both sites will also need to be upgraded because it is running an out of date version of Microsoft Office which is over 15 years old. Kudler Fine Foods cannot just upgrade to Office 2010 because the current server does not have the system requirements needed to run the program. Once the new server are installed the ram will be upgraded along with all the abilities to uses a XLS spread sheet and share it out across the entire network. This spread sheet will be updated in real-time by the Point if sales systems. This information will be sent to all of the stores mangers so they will always know the status of their sales and inventory. The Novell servers that are installed at the Delmar and Lajolla stores were released in 1994 and are almost 20 years old. These systems will be replaced with one the recent
- 4. releases of Microsoft Server to provide the support needed for the new network. These systems are important to the network as they are the brains to the network and will be control not only the authentication of the network, but access to the storage servers as well. Both the XSL and Novell servers not only be replace, but instead of having these systems in two locations they will be moved to the Delmar location which will provide a central location for server management. This will cut down on the down to have Network admins at both sites which in turn also saves Kudler Fine Foods money. The other benefit to moving the server to a central location is that it will provide an easier maintenance program. Instead of going to two different sites now the servers can be serviced at one location. The last and final problem on the network is the UPS power unit installed at all sites. At this point this may provide enough power to the take care of the current network infrastructure, but this will not work for the new network design. This is vital to the network because, “If a computer is not receiving a consistent flow of electricity, damage can and often does occur.” (Fisher). Providing a redundant power supply will be vital to the network because having the ability to operate when power goes out will make sure that no information or data is lost. The one thing that Kudler will need to understand is that spending the money the right way will become vital to the stores operations. Going cheap is not always the right way to do things. “It is also important to remember that, just as with every other new capability introduced in the world of high-tech, there is always something new and bigger coming down the road” (Packetizer, Inc., 2012). The great thing that these changes will
- 5. bring is the fact that not only will the company be a leader in there industry it will also provide room for further expansion which will also save the company money on future network expansions that may arise as the company grow. Integrative Network Design Project The integrative network design project (INDP) combines key features of a design approach and considerations, network and data configuration, and hardware and software configuration. Students must apply and demonstrate an understanding of those features to the complete design of a network meeting prescribed performance requirements. This project consists of a series of assignments and culminates with the INDP. Select one of the following businesses from the University of Phoenix Virtual Organizations: Option 1: Riordan Manufacturing Option 2: Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) Option 3: Patton-Fuller Community Hospital Option 1: Riordan Manufacturing · Integrate all locations with common wide area network (WAN) protocols. · Convert the administration networks in each plant to wireless local area networks (WLANs). · Bring voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) to the entire corporation, and decide on what protocols are needed in the satellite link between San Jose and China to support a symmetrical 10 megabits per second (Mbps) connection, real time required, with a quality of service equivalent to a circuit switched data link.Option 2: Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) · Design a WAN to tie all three KFF locations together.
