“I know Allie is an avid speaker and has been in the
events industry a long time. One question I have been
asking myself for the last couple of years. Why don’t we
get more females putting themselves forward for
speaking opportunities at our events?
Its a shame, our industry is full of amazing women with
great insight and I find it hard to tap in to this as an
event organizer.”

Your Event Technology Questions Answered
“I’ve been led down the proverbial primrose
path by two prospective clients this year
resulting in lost time, income, and probably
"idea theft". Where can I find a great
questionnaire to show my interest, get answers
to meaningful questions from the prospective
client and yet not sacrifice the biz time, energy
and resources unnecessarily.”

Does the event industry experience the
same gender pay gap between men and
women as seen in other professions?”

Your Event Technology Questions Answered

Editor's Notes

  • #4: General principles to abide by: Idea #1: Collaboration Room with whiteboard & flip board
  • #5: Idea #2: Ignite Hangout
  • #6: Plan for it. Lost revenue source > Can be a supplement when sold out of blocks All about convenience.
  • #8: CEMA Haute Dokimazo Hubspot > Inbound PCMA MPI Lean on your partners > will help you think strategically
  • #9: LinkedIn Groups Lean on your partners > will help you think strategically
  • #10: CEMA Haute Dokimazo Hubspot LinkedIn Groups Lean on your partners > will help you think strategically
  • #12: It depends based on the type of corporate going after. From a partner: pain points & solutions
  • #14: 20 years experience. Started to get asked to speak but why would people listen to me? Lot of event managers don’t have large egos; we’re sort of used to working in the shadows Sheryl Sandberg – Lean In We all have something to contribute Speaking gets easier every time you do it Gender gap -> women are taking on more leadership roles
  • #15: Things being individualized > just the way things are going. Personally, events are an evolution of that. Old experience: white glove, time consuming. Used to be a bit of a unexpected bonus. Now there is an expectation. New experience: data providing those experiences Mobile site knows your preferences and gives you a custom experience Digital signage can read your badge and tell you what is happening
  • #16: Things being individualized > just the way things are going.
  • #18: + Look at other events + Talk to other event profs, online and in person
  • #19: Meeting mgmt.: hate flying to be on-site for 8 hours. For me, it’s an amazing way to check out venue spaces and conduct site visits without having to travel. Streamlines the planning process. AR is part of experiential design. Want now Getting engagement. Out of box experience. Consuming content. Experience content in augmented reality Splash! Andrea: Hololens
  • #20: Individualized experiences Attendee design Tech solutions that work together > plug event tech tribe Chatbots
  • #23: critical innovations are those that streamline attendee experiences without them realising - slick tech that gets them in a room with the right people learning/enjoying the right things. Fads interfere with the core experience, so for me one fad is badly executed gamification, and maybe even AR
  • #25: No right order When you can, as fast as you can
  • #26: It’s potentially different for everybody. What is your one metric that most ties to success? For me, perception analysis
  • #28: 1 – intern -> learn as much as possible 2 – degrees -> meeting management degrees -> who has them?
  • #30: Yes - Badges are easiest way an event planner can leave tribal markers for others to pick up on.  A badge that says  ‘Investor’ ‘Media’ ‘Delegate’ ‘Speaker’ – which tribe are you in? Facilitates communication between strangers. -” Without knowing your name, someone can’t find you, remember you, track you down or sell something to you.  It is a gift, to hand over that power to a new person and means they can relax and engage with you.  Put your name on a badge and you hand over a little bit of power to me, and I’m grateful for that.”
  • #31: I did a little bit of research on this and found a helpful report from PCMA Convene about salaries in the events industry.
  • #32: They did find that woman are paid less than men.
  • #33: But it seems like the primary cause of that of that is men have a disproportionate share of leadership roles in the industry. So yes, there does seem to be a gender gap but it’s not entirely cut and dry. To me, it seems like men and woman are paid nearly the same but that men at times have an easier time getting leadership roles that pay more.
