MTN Ghana outsourced the management of its towers to American Tower in 2010. This made MTN Ghana the first MTN operation to adopt the towerco model. The relationship with American Tower is managed through regular meetings to review operational performance. Site upgrades like modernized power solutions and remote monitoring have improved site uptime and SLAs. Joint governance meetings that include both infrastructure providers help integrate management and drive continuous improvement. Lessons learned include designing SLAs around rewards and penalties, and having towercos commit to investment strategies to guarantee SLA fulfillment.
