Introduction Student Page Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ] This assignment’s goal is to get students involved with internet based research. They will be provided a few web sites that will be used for their research. The idea is to get a group representing each continent in the world, and present facts and information about that continent to the class. This is a web based jigsaw assignment, that in the end will leave the entire class with insight to the social and geographical features of the globe. The students will then prepare a PowerPoint presentation on their topic and present their findings to the class.
The Task Student Page Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ] -Students will get into groups of 3-5  -They will then chose one of the seven continents to study -Find information about the people, animals, geography, weather, and countries. -Students will then create a 6-10 slide PowerPoint presentation, and will present their information to the class. Africa Asia Europe North America South America Antarctica Oceana  (for Oceana choose Australia or New Zealand) -Answer the following Questions using the Internet resources. -How many countries are in this continent? -Who lives on this continent? Describe the different people. -What is the climate like? Describe seasonal variations,  precip, temp, etc… -What landforms are there? Describe the landscape. -What bodies of water border your continent? Describe the  importance of the bodies of water. -What animals are on this continent? Show adaptations and  pictures. -Create a PowerPoint that answers the webquest questions. -Present information to class in a 3-5 min presentation.

Conclusion  Student Page Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ] At the end of this assignment our class should have an understanding of the different continents of the globe. They should have improved their global awareness and cultural knowledge. At the same time the students will have learned how to use internet based research, as well as develop a PowerPoint presentation.

Introduction (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This is a lesson that will help develop a students global awareness, while introducing them to internet based research. The students will be able to demonstrate their learning through a PowerPoint assignment.  This lesson should be done in a computer lab, as well as have a full demonstration to introduce the assignment. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion

The idea is to use internet research to make a presentation on a continent. Standard Two: Students know physical and human characteristics of places, and use this knowledge to define and study regions and their patterns of change. Standard Three: Students understand how physical processes shape the earth’s surface patterns and systems. Standard Six: Students apply knowledge of people, places, and environments to understand the past and the present and to plan for the future. Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion
The Process (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This assignment is going to take multiple class sessions. One for the demonstration, then there needs to be time for research, and finally there needs to be presentation time. The student process is below, it is pretty straight forward. Make sure that you discuss the detail in which you would like your students to go into. -In your Groups Pick a Continent Africa Asia Europe North America South America Antarctica Oceana  (for Oceana choose Australia or New Zealand) -Answer the following Questions using the Internet resources. How many countries are in this continent? Who lives on this continent? Describe the different people. What is the climate like? Describe seasonal variations, precip, temp,  etc… What landforms are there? Describe the landscape. What bodies of water border your continent? Describe the importance  of the bodies of water. What animals are on this continent? Show adaptations and pictures. -Create a PowerPoint that answers the webquest questions. -Present information to class in a 3-5 min presentation. Then demonstrate how they will be using the provided web sites to find their information. Finally let them get into groups and start. Day 2: Research in computer lab Day3:  Research Day 4: PowerPoint demonstration by teacher, then they start  their presentations Day 5: PowerPoint work day. Last work day. Day 6: Presentations Day 7: more time for presentations if necessary Evaluation Teacher Script Conclusion

It is student based research and student based presentations. Each group will be responsible for teaching their continent to the rest of the class. This should provide some cultural and global awareness that they did not have beforehand. The student led presentations will take the teacher out of the lecture role and let the students do the teaching. If managed properly this lesson could be very fun and educational.
