- 1. Jakera Fuzz HMSV Prof. Thomas 8 October, 2015 Reflection Paper When I first started college I had this vision that it was going to be what it looked like in the movies and on TV. But those first couple of weeks I found out very quickly that it wasn’t necessarily what they portray on TV. In high school they say that they are preparing you for college, I didn’t necessarily feel prepared because it so different from what I’m used to. In high school your teachers basically baby you in comparison to College professors. I feel as though I did not do good my first year college, I wasn’t excited about my classes and my major just wasn’t the right fit for me. I do feel more confident this year going into my sophomore year as a Human Services major because I always wanted to work with kids no matter what profession I ended up in. So I have decided to do children’s social work. I was introduced to the Human Services major because my aunt is a social worker and by discussing school with her it sounded like something I would love to do, I am also great friends with Kirsten Stanley and she is in the Human Services Program. I would say that my weaknesses in school would be math; I never really liked it since I’ve been in middle school, and it takes me a really long time to grasp the concept. My strengths would have to be sciences and labs; science has always been my favorite subject since
- 2. elementary school. I found my Human Services class interesting because of the discussions we had, you got to see everybody else’s view on a particular subject and you notice that not everybody thinks the way that you do. I also found my Marine Science interesting because you learn things about animals that you never know and you’re really hands on with them during labs. My most challenging classes last year were Algebra and Sociology, I actually don’t think that it was me not retaining the material; I think it was the way it was being taught that made it difficult for me. I didn’t really handle it in any particular way I just retook the class with a different professor. I haven’t had any experience outside of the classroom but next year I will be doing an internship. In school I was never an A student or a star student. I just tried my best, and that’s all I can do. Of course I always think that my study habits and my grades could be better. By doing these discussions it really makes you think about every aspect of the subject that you’re talking about. They are also real life topics about things that actually happen in people’s life. One of my favorite topics was the love and intimacy chapter because it’s so interesting to me, I love talking about love, couples, and marriage so that by far is the topic I would conduct research on.
