PEPY is an NGO based in Cambodia that focuses on enhancing education in underprivileged communities, particularly in the rural area of Chanleas Dai, where many children drop out of school and lack access to trained teachers. The organization implements various educational programs aimed at improving literacy, supporting schools, and fostering community involvement. PEPY's long-term vision is to empower every community through outstanding education, addressing the challenges stemming from Cambodia's historical educational trauma.

Instead, we focus on creative thinking, problem solving, & creative expression through these classes which supplement school offerings.

- 28. LITERACY KHMER CLASSES A B O U T In October 2006, we tested the students and found that many in PEPY’s first partner school could not read and write in Khmer. We decided to focus on Khmer literacy by increasing students’ access to reading materials and encouraging teachers to incorporate more books into their classes.
- 29. LITERACY LITERACY CAMPS A B O U T Literacy Camps instill a love of learning in students, while sharing new literacy methodology with teachers.
- 30. LITERACY LITERACY CAMPS A C H I E V E M E N T S Over 70 teachers and 600 students participated in PEPY’s Literacy Camp in 2010.
- 31. SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION CREATIVE LEARNING CLASSES (CLC) A B O U T Students use computers and open‐source programming software to create games, build robots, and conduct learning experiments in their communities.

Khmer for: Communities SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS Developing Schools SAHAKOOM APEEWAHT SALA A B O U T SAS identifies schools that have a high level of participation from their principals & communities and spends 3-5 years working with them to identify their needs and priorities, helping them to cultivate their own capabilities and to build strong School Support Committees (SSCs).

This initiative is the beginning of what they hope will be a life skills program for students that offers agricultural knowledge and income-generating ideas.

The school support committee fundraised the majority of the budget for its resource-making workshop.

SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS A B O U T The goal is to enable motivated young leaders from Chanleas Dai and the surrounding area to afford the costs associated with university or teacher training school while empowering them to be the funders of future scholarship recipients.
- 37. SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION ENGLISH CLASSES A B O U T We foster students' creativity and self-confidence through supplementary English classes. These programs also give students a competitive advantage when pursuing their dreams for the future.
- 38. SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION TRAVELING TEACHER SUPPORT A B O U T The focus of this initiative is to build the skills of all 5th and 6th grade government teachers in the commune so they are better equipped to teach English in their government schools.
- 39. SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION ENGINEERING CLUB A B O U T Over 30 students meet each week for about an hour, during which students work on a wide variety of projects in the field of engineering.
- 40. SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION BIKE-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAM A B O U T The Bike-to-School Program provides the opportunity for students to continue their education after 6th grade by offering a bike to those living far away from school to be able to attend their classes.

SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION TEACHER LIVELIHOODS A B O U T Government teachers in Cambodia get paid an average of 50 to 100 USD per month, a barely liveable wage for an individual, much less a family. Teacher Livelihoods provide supplemental income to dedicated teachers, so that they can focus on education.
- 42. LITERACY CLASSROOM LIBRARIES A B O U T Classroom libraries focus on fostering a love of reading in students by increasing access to books and incorporating books into the classroom.
- 43. LITERACY CLASSROOM LIBRARIES A C H I E V E M E N T S Over 50 classrooms in Chanleas Dai commune now offer Khmer reading material and children’s books, plus PEPY supports a library reading room as well.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS CHILD-TO-CHILD CLUBS A B O U T The Child-to-Child uses an active learning initiative to encourage children to identify pressing problems, research them, take action towards a goal, & evaluate their progress before repeating the cycle again. Through this process, the children become the change makers!
- 45. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS CHILD-TO-CHILD CLUBS A B O U T Child-to-Child clubs encourage children to identify issues they encounter on a regular basis, such as dengue fever or pollution, and then plan a course of action to work for change within their own neighborhoods.
- 46. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS CHILD-TO-CHILD CLUBS A C H I E V E M E N T S Currently, there are 14 Child Clubs, and we have 8 educators to facilitate these clubs. We recently started Youth Clubs as well for older students.
- 47. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS CHILD-TO-CHILD CLUBS A C H I E V E M E N T S Currently, each village is constructing community centers to accommodate the growing child clubs. Every village has donated the time, materials, and land to create a dedicated space.
- 48. We have seen the effect of our programs in villages and communities surrounding the schools.
- 50. INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY PROJECTS VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (VCD) A B O U T 20 graduating 9th grade students who live in Chanleas Dai commune decided to start their own organization to help their communities.
- 51. INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY PROJECTS VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (VCD) A B O U T They began teaching English to community members in seven villages as well as starting clean- up initiatives to alleviate the litter problem seen in many villages.

INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY PROJECTS VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (VCD) A C H I E V E M E N T S They now have 47 members (students in grades 7-12) and teach over 750 students per day in 20 classes which take place 5 nights per week in locations across the commune. The commune chief donated a small building to them. We can’t wait to see what problems they tackle next!
