This thesis examines the material and symbolic aspects of Afro-Brazilian religions in Brazil by studying a temple in Parnaíba, Piauí. It explores the spatial aspects of the temple territory and the cognitive aspects of believers who participate in this space. Their life stories are intertwined with the local official history and cosmic reality of these religions through their sacred myths. Important rituals and religious practices are also described thickly to contribute to the religious ideas about the relationship between man and nature.
