JOSHUA FANN’S
            POWER POINT
lAND ICE / SEA ICE EXPERIMENT:
Aim:
To see if the ice would melt and would it change the air temperature.

Hypothesis:
I think the air temperature might change.

Research: We researched in the science room with a group measuring three different
beakers with sea water and ice cubes. Also we needed to use a thermometer in each
beaker to measure the temperature change every minute for 10 minutes.

Equipment: Three Beakers, One liter of Sea Water supplied by Joshua Fann, Three
Thermometers, Six Ice Cubes, Tin Foil to cover Beakers and also to make a substitute
land model. We also needed an accurate watch to keep taking new results every minute.

Method:

1. Set up three beakers all the same size.
2. Pour in 200 ml sea water into each beaker.
3. Put in model tin foil land.
4. Place ice cubes on top of land. One ice cube in the first beaker, Two ice cubes in the
second beaker and Three ice cubes into the third beaker.
5. Cover each beaker with tin foil
6. Puncher hole for the thermometer to go through.
7. Start timer.
8. Take a temperature result every minute.
9. Do this for 10 minutes.

3 Ice Cubes: The ice was not completely melted and the beaker was very cold to touch.

2 Ice Cubes: 1.5 ice cubes was melted and the beaker was cool to touch.

1 Ice Cube: Ice melted completely and the beaker was warm to touch.

Conclusion:
Our experiment showed that the beaker with three ice cubes kept the water and the air
colder than the beaker with one ice cube. But looking at our results the beaker that
contained two ice cubes actually had the coldest air temperature. The three ice cube
beaker had the coldest water temperature.

Application:

This experiment has shown that if the Polar Ice Caps continue to melt the water and air will
continue to be cold. This is not a suitable habitat for humans.
