Trouble brews as Nestle drags rivals to court A coffee war has broken out in Europe pitting the Swiss food giant Nestle against the struggling American food group Sara Lee as well as a former Nestle executive. They are at odds over the world-wide monopoly Nespresso has long held on the lucrative espresso pods that fit its coffee-making machines. 
Kwality Dairy launches Dairy Best Ghee Kwality Dairy (KDIL) which has clients like Mother Dairy, Nestle and HUL has launched Dairy Best Ghee.  KDIL has procured dairy design and equipment from Alfa Laval India Ltd (Tetra Pack Group) with design back up from APV Anhydro Pasilac AS Denmark.  KDIL manufactures Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP), Whole Milk Powder (WMP), Partly Skimmed Milk Powder (PSMP), Dairy Whitener, Desi ghee, White Butter, Curd, Butter Milk, Yogurts and other milk Products.
GSK, Nestle, Coca-Cola & Dabur top up effort to tap rural consumers GlaxoSmithKline is rolling out Asha — a milk food drink from Horlicks for rural consumers — in Andhra Pradesh. Asha,which is 40% cheaper than the regular variant of Horlicks. Nestle is promoting Maggi noodles at Rs 4 and Maggi seasoning at Rs 2 for low-income group consumers beginning with Mumbai’s Dharavi slum
Cont.. Coca-Cola has begun selling a powder-based beverage called Vitingo at Rs 2.50 per sachet across villages in Orissa PepsiCo’s global chairman & CEO Indra Nooyi has announced that the company is working on a beverage or snack priced between Re 1 and Rs 5 for people ailing from malnutrition and deficiencies. 
ADF stores emerge as one of the largest processed foods companies American Dry Fruits Stores started in 1932, selling dry fruits and nuts at Flora Fountain (now Hutatma Chowk) in Mumbai, and now has emerged one of the largest processed foods companies in the country.  The 101-crore ADF Foods has 200 to 300 ethnic Indian food products under brand names such as Ashoka, Camel, Aeroplane, Khansaama and Truly Indian, catering to various markets including the Middle East and the United States.
Coca-Cola enters dairy-based beverages segment Global beverages giant Coca-Cola marked its entry in the dairy segment with the launch of a milk-based mango drink.  The product, Maaza Milky Delite, had been launched for the first time in Kolkata.  The national roll-out of it would take place after the product's test marketing in Kolkata. The product would be manufactured at the company's bottling plant at Taratolla.
Ferrero to set up 2nd chocolate unit in India Ferrero, the $8- bn Italian confectionery giant, has firmed up plans for a new production facility in Maharashtra with an investment of over $125 mn to whip up some of its popular brands that include Rocher and Kinder.  The company's new facility will be located near the existing plant at Baramati, near Pune. Ferrero has already invested over $75 mn in India  Ferrero -- which has also started targeting children in India with Kinder Surprise, that combines a chocolate egg, a surprise filling and a toy -- runs its existing unit through a 100-percent subsidiary, Imsofer Manufacturing, that started production two years ago. 
Marico buys Ingwe brand from SA co Marico Industries, the maker of Parachute and Saffola brands, has acquired an over-the-counter healthcare brand called Ingwe from South Africa-based company Guideline Trading CC The Mumbai-headquartered company, which entered South Africa in October 2007, currently has hair-care brands such as Caivil, Black Chic and healthcare brand Hercules in its portfolio.  This is Marico’s second acquisition in South Africa and the seventh globally in the past five years. According to a company filing to the exchange, Ingwe has an annual turnover of `15 crore. 
Elder Health Care bets big on Tiger Balm Elder Health Care, the FMCG arm of the Rs 800-crore Elder group, is targeting a turnover of Rs 125-crore and has earmarked Rs 40-crore for an advertising blitz aimed at strongly pushing its three top brands -- Tiger Balm, Fuel deodorant and FairOne Cream -- this fiscal.  The company also aims to launch some dermo-cosmetic products, which would give it better margins as also an economy soap--Rhyme--over the next 6-9-months The company's strategy is to tap the rapidly-growing rural and semi-urban markets and it plans to begin this exercise with Tiger Balm
