A Heritage for Jewish Toronto
A Legacy for Jewish Families
From our humble beginnings over 100 years ago in a small eight-room
house on Simcoe St., we began a great tradition in which the Toronto
Jewish community’s children—from all observance levels, socio-economic
backgrounds, and every corner of the city—learned about their heritage
together. To this day, we have remained true to that mission to have
a diverse appeal, and cater to the community’s children, regardless
of their parents’ ability to pay tuition.
Over four generations of families have studied in our classrooms as
we have grown through educational innovation and partnered in developing
the Toronto Jewish community through our four conveniently located
campuses: Cedarvale (Pre-Nursery & Nursery); Posluns (JK – Grade 5);
Kamin (Pre-Nursery – Grade 5); and Hurwich/Danilack Middle School
(Grades 6-8).

“Associated has been the main source of Jewish education and love for Jewish learning
instilled in four generations of my family: my grandpa (Nathan Rochwerg) went to the
D'Arcy St. Talmud Torah in the late '20's; my father (Marty Rochwerg) went to the
Brunswick school and then graduated from Posluns in 1963; my husband, Ozzie,
and I met at and both graduated from Danilack in 1991; and my own three children are
currently being enriched with the top-notch educational programs that Associated provides.
Associated is not just an institution of learning, but a culture and family. Our children
feel loved from the moment they walk through the school's doors. Their ability to
speak and understand conversational Hebrew has been the biggest impact
their Associated education has made.

Associated Hebrew Schools (“AHS”) is a community day school

Our students use 21st century learning tools, including
laptops, Smartboards and iPads as well as taking advantage
of an array of online resources.
Our goal is for your child to learn how to study

material and ask complex questions.

Jewish Tradition
We invite your children and family to join us in an exploration
of the beauty and power of Jewish tradition. Jewish practice —
ritual and observance — is taught in a meaningful and
relevant way.
We see ourselves as part of the global Jewish
community, connected to Jews around the world.
Our strongest connection is to the State of Israel and we see
her language, literature, music, history and current events as
an essential part our Jewish identity. As our students learn
and gain proficiency in Hebrew, they create a bond to the
global Jewish community.
Hebrew is taught by immersing children in the language from
the time they enter the school through our Ivrit b'Ivrit program.

for Little Learners. Mini Mensch & Me
for ages 15 months to 2 years, and
Mini Mensch & Beyond for ages 2 to 3.

Preschool
Our preschool programs (Nursery,
JK, SK) lay the further foundation for

Elementary
Our Grades 1-5—the Elementary
division—provides students with the
education they will need to be citizens

provide students with skills, we teach

leaders. The day is equally divided
into General and Judaic studies while

Jewish life & culture.
Middle School
Danilack Middle School (Grades 6-8)
is a dynamic and exciting place of

adolescents. Our students are

We are deeply committed to the educational success of each and every student.
We use ‘differentiated learning’ as a common classroom practice whereby
lessons and activities are tailored to meet the needs of your child.
With ongoing professional development, our teachers are continually
upgrading their qualifications to engage students in a variety of
ways – intellectually, emotionally, physically and creatively.
Our Centre for Diverse Learning (CDL) is a unique and comprehensive department
developed to meet children’s individual needs. Our CDL educational experts also
work closely with our classroom teachers to meet the needs of all of our students.
We provide your child with a blended learning environment that unites General
and Judaic studies as well as curricular and extra-curricular activity. Big ideas
like social justice, environmental responsibility and mutual respect permeate
the school environment, and teachers from different disciplines collaborate
to create integrated experiences.

We equip your children with a moral compass allowing them to navigate
the competing values that confront them in a complex world. Your children
learn to demonstrate our sense of Jewish obligation not only in the way we

bring joy, correct injustice, and stand up for what is right.
How we treat other people is an essential element of Jewish learning.
Students learn that mutual respect, fairness, dignity and compassion

education, conflict resolution programs, and recess Buddies are
examples of many of the initiatives that reflect our commitment

Valedictory Speech
“We have learned how to survive a long school day that has a
double program of general and Jewish studies. Who would have
thought that when we entered this school, we’d be able to solve
challenging algebraic equations, interpret the Torah with the help
of our good friend Rashi, and even learn how To Kill a Mockingbird?
The dedicated teachers here at Associated have not only taught us
how to conjugate french verbs, how to do a proper sit up and how
to behave like Jonah the Prophet, when you’re stuck in a whale,
but they have also taught us how to think critically and how
to be responsible citizens in the Jewish community.
