The Global CCS Institute aims to accelerate the development and deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) globally. It has over 330 member organizations from around the world. The Institute supports various CCS projects through knowledge sharing and studies. According to a recent report, most large-scale CCS projects are in the power sector and located in the US and Europe. Some projects have begun construction with government funding and plans to store CO2 in oil fields. However, making CCS economically viable remains a challenge.

- 16. GLOBAL CCS INSTITUTE KEY MESSAGES Early mover projects are found in industrial applications and with EOR for storage. Two power projects are now under construction with aid of government funding and EOR revenue. A number of power projects are on the verge of FID but making the business case is proving difficult and time consuming. Greater collaboration and transparency between government and industry is needed. Storage assessments in deep saline formations can have long lead times – need to start now. 15
