Initial Reaction
• My initial reaction to this was; I had already decided before
hand to do a video game project, and it didn’t take me long to
figure out what type of video game I’ll do, I want to blend
fighting games like mortal combat and street fighter, with free
roaming style gameplay. We also had to think of some extra
stuff to do, so that its not just one thing. So I came up with the
idea to make a video game poster or box art of the video game
that I make.

IDEAS
The Power
The video game idea will be a super
hero game, you will be able to create
a character and chose your power,
after that you fight enemies and go
up the levels, however the higher the
level that harder the enemy, and on
the final level there will be a boss that
you will have to defeat. You will also
be able to level up your character.
Horror
This game idea will be a horror themed game
where you explore a large mansion, there will
be a narrative to it which you will explore more
the further you get. The game will be 2D.
Because the game will be heavy on narrative
there will be speech bubbles for the
characters, so that they can tell the story.
Agent
This would be a spy game, you have to infiltrate a
base kill all the enemies until you find and fight
the boss. You can upgrade your weapons the
more you kill enemies. The game will be 2D and
will feel like an old James bond style game. You
will be able to play the game in two different
options, stealth or guns blazing.
Shooter down
This is a space invaders style game where you shoot down
enemy aircraft. Your base has three lives. You can upgrade your
gun and defenses the more you progress. The enemies will get
more and more challenging to defeat the more you progress.
Character
There will be four characters in
the game that you can play at
any time, you will also be able
to upgrade them.
Map
There will be multiple different
map to show progression through
the game. One map in a city the
other in a building,
There will be two
characters, fire and ice
who you can only
switch between when
one of them is killed
by the enemy
There will be one big
map which will be
located in a city.
Characters
There wont be any characters in the is video game because
you play as a turret gun.
Characters
There will be one playable character, which will be
the agent. He will be fully customizable at the
start of the game.
Map
The map will be small but with a lot of interacting
features, for instance turning on a lamp or closing
blinds, this would make creating the map a lot more
enjoyable and easy because ill be able to focus on small
details to make it more immersive.

The Powers (Box art)
For the poster on this game I’ll make it
as colorful as possible because the
theme of the game is superheroes and
the theme of heroes is hope and joy,
and bright colours blend better with
that theme. I’ll make the poster on
Photoshop because I have a lot of
experience with Photoshop and I also
think its the best software for making
posters.
Horror (Box art)
For this poster I’ll use dark colours so
that the audience will know what the
theme is immediately upon seeing it. I
will make the poster on Photoshop.
Agent
For the box art of this game it would just show the
playable character in the center, this lets the
audience know who the main character is. I would
use Photoshop to create this poster. Behind him will
be a huge explosion to tell the audience that he is
very important. And because the game is pixelated
the box art will be to.
Shooter down (Box art)
I would use retro colours for this poster because it suits more
with genre, and the style of the game is arcade so that’s
another reason why retro colours would work better.
All the playable character will be shown on
the images so that the audience can know
what they look like, and can maybe chose
who they will mostly play as.
Setting the tone for this game is very
easy compared to the other games,
because all I need to do is add dark
colours and the audience will know
that it’s a horror game.
This is a very old fashion style of game so it
needs to look retro so that the audience know
what there buying.
Show only one character on the box art lets the
audience know that there on there own also the
explosion in the background can make there
playable character look and feel more like a bad
ass.

The Powers
The game will be a 2D style side
scroller, the reason I picked this
style was because your able to
see the progression. Also I’m
doing 2D because I’m using
Photoshop to make the game.
There won’t be character creation
in the game but you will be able
to upgrade your characters skills,
as you progress through the
game. This will make the playable
characters feel more like the
players characters.
Most of The enemies will look the same,
but to make it look like the enemies are
getting more challenging they will have a
few tweaks to make them look slightly
different. The final boss will look completely
different to the rest of the enemies so that
he stands out.
The level design will change every
level, for instance the fist level will be
outside and the second level will be
inside a building. I think this is a good
idea because it gives the player a
sense of progression.
When using photoshop to
create a game, you have to
draw it yourself which
some people say is tedious
work, how ever it makes
the game feel more like
your own.
There will be three maps in total and each
map will be different, however one map
will have two section to show a sense of
scale to the player. The only interactive
parts of the map will be the doors and
they will be used to progress to the next
map.
You will be able to switch between
the characters at any point in the
game, this gives a tactical option to
the player during combat or any
other scenario.
The enemies will
take more hits to kill
as well, witch will
make the player
think more tactically
then before.

The software I’ll use to
make this product will
be Photoshop because
I have the most
experience with it and I
think it’s the best
software to make
posters.
I will use bright colours in
the poster because I feel
they associate more with
superheroes because there
symbols of peace and if I
show that in the box art
the audience will know
that the game is about
superheroes
The box art will show all the playable
characters in different action poses witch
will let the audience know that this is an
action game. It will also show at least one
character fighting an enemy, this can make
the audience want to play as that character.
I also this making box
art on photoshop will
be more enjoyable
because of the amount
of features that I can
use.

Mind map discussion
So I’ll be making a superhero video game for consoles, I’ll make
the animation part of the project on Photoshop and I’ll do the
audio part will be made on premiere pro. It will be an action with
many different combat options, for instance ice blast, punch,
explosion, this will make the game feel more in-depth. For the
box art of the game, I will make it on Photoshop, because I
believe that it’s the easiest software to use for this type of
project.

Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• On the gameplay images the colours are mostly bright, to convey a hopeful tone.
• All or the gameplay images are side scrollers.
• There all pixelated 2D games.
• All the box art has a similar style, where the main characters are at the centre of
the image.
• All the box art images are full of colour.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
For the video game, I will use bright colours for the heroes costume and background,
because bright colours are associated good, which is what heroes are.
The game is going to be pixelated because that is the easiest way to animate stuff on
Photoshop.
I’m going to use loads of effects that I’ll make on Photoshop, because for them to look
like superheroes they need powers.
My mood boards will help me with deciding what type of colours I should use for
particular characters.

Positives and Negatives
One of the positives of my video game is the end result, I’ll be looking forward
to how it looks when its finished, because this is the biggest video game I have
made so far. Another positive to my video game is the characters, for the first
time I ’am making more that one playable character, and it should be fun to
create four unique characters. Another positive to my video game is the
effects, I have never made pixelated effects in photoshop before, so creating a
fire blast or an ice wall should be quite interesting. One of the negatives of my
video game is how ambituses it is, there quite a lot of this to do and some of it
I’m not to familiar with. Another Issue is time, I have a lot to do and I’m to sure
is I’ll get it done in time. Sound effects for the video game might be an issue
because I’m not the best when it comes to sound design, but it might be
interesting to see what I can do.
One of the positives for my box art is how much time it will take, I don’t think it
will take up too much of my production time. One of the negatives of my box
art is that it will need to be pixelated and in my opinion I don’t think it will look
as good as I think it should.
